e90 LCI - "Brake bulb malfunction" - and the entire taillight needs replacement !?
Hi,
I received a "brake bulb malfunction" today, and a part of one tail lamp (in the picture) does not light up anymore. I have a (cracked) spare trunk taillamp and I wanted to take the bulbs from that and put them into the car's taillamp. Surprise ! That "bulb line" does not seem to be detachable from the tail lamp and I think the entire tail lamp needs replacement Does anyone know if there are any solutions ? It's frustrating to change the whole tail light when a bulb is fried...even if my car it's still under warranty.

Not sure about the LCI but on my blacklines (oem) you just have to pop out the white harness in the back and replace the bulbs. I can't see why BMW would design a tailight with bulbs that cannot be replaced but being LED they might have. They really shoud have just put LED bulbs in and not strips that cannot be replaced.

Any Update on this?
Mine goes out intermittently without any warning codes.

The exact led went out on my tail light and is getting replaced today by the dealer (still under warranty). Yes, you need an entirely new trunk tail light assembly. It's the led, not a bulb, that burnt out.
