rear driver window doesnt work

Rolled down my rear driver side window and it randomly stopped half way and now I can easily move the window up and down with my hands. How do I know if it is the regulator or the motor that went out?

If you press the switch and can hear the motor run, then likely the motor is still good. Sound like your regulator blew out just like mine did. Mine went out with a loud bang. Follow link below if you're out of warranty and want to DIY.

I guess you can check ebay or junkyard. But I'm not sure if you want a used one since the cause of the failure is the plastic getting brittle with age. An old one probably won't last very long. Besides, a new one is less than $150.

I got my replacement from here - http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...otor+2006-2010

It's not OEM, but it works great and build quality seemed as good or better than the genuine BMW one I took out. I think the OEM one is like 75 on tischer, but then they add that ridiculous "handling" fee to everything so I bought elsewhere.

Yeah for that price I couldn't pass it up. One thing to note about the install - When I got mine all put back together, the auto-up feature on the switch was rolling the window all the way up.. but when it fully closed it would roll back down. (I think the car didn't know where fully closed was any more, and thought something was getting caught in it when it encountered the resistance, which activates anti-trap.) I had to re-initialize the window to get it to work correctly again. I found the procedure on this forum somewhere, but don't recall exactly what I searched for to find it.

There a DIY on that sub-forum for rear window regulator replacement.
