Jeez man....I'm so envious....you are going to have one bad ass riding ride....wish I could drive it....suspension is such a pain to decide and expensive if you want it to be perfect...looks like you went the right way...

Congrats on the OSG and AST setup with M3 bits. *sigh*
I want the same thing for my e90. Got the Quaife from Harold back in the day when it was the only game in town (pre-Wavetrac) and OSG was soooo expensive...as I recall. I was in a hurry to install a real diff that met my needs at the time, while reducing the wear and tear of the brakes induced by the nanny controls that passed as e-diffs for our rides. Looking at the 400/800 Swift Spring setup with the AST singles, though... currently have 219M wheels and the potholes are not as severe in the Mid-Atlantic... Can't wait to read your review/impressions once you put on your new toys!

No doubt....can't wait for the review. Even though I'm sure it's going to be an un-believable ride. Which will translate to me saving for a few months and driving the wife crazy wanting to get coils again.

Gizmo get a plane ticket and fly out to Tibra and drive in his car after his install it would be cheaper for you to do that than buy another set of coils and not like them.

PLEASE keep us posted once these are installed. I'm looking at doing either the exact same setup or something similar. I like how you "hoarded" things over time...you're a patient man, I doubt I could exercise the same level of restraint. All those bits laying around, just teasing me...it would be more than I could take.

Don't lower the rear end too much with those spring rates. I am running 450/900 on my AST's with the rear tire just about even with the rear fender and it is too low as it hits the bump stops on larger bumps and can unsettle the car. Not sure why AST hasn't done shorter shock bodies in the rear and can't talk them into doing it.

Tire to fender clearance is poor indication of ride height since not everyone is on the same brand and model tire and of the same overall diameter. |

Thank you and please understand that I am far from a suspension noob and as such tend to over simplify my comments so as not to potentially confuse the less knowledgable. I was simply trying to make points in that one should not lower the car too much and that the rear shock housings need to be shorter. This is especially true given the design of most coilovers for this car as without shorter housings it is very difficult to properly tune the suspension given the factory design constraints. There is no coilovers out for this car that I am aware of that uses the bump stop in the same manner as oem which leads to a necessity of shorter shock housings or higher ride height for additional compression travel.

Can you explain what you mean by "cornering power" and how that translates into a bump stop adding mechanical grip and in what situations? |

I'm envious too. A M3 suspension conversion is my next project. Report back once installed

Rubber, cellular polyurethane or just polyurethane, foam or what have you as long as it's progressive and provide a controlled bottoming you will have more cornering power than the sudden or short stop version, but only with the proper spring rates. I am sure you know that already. |
