I just changed my oil last night at 8600. Holy hell that shit was black and disgusting. Change it now people!

after the first break in oil change at 1500, i change it religiously every 3.5-4k after that. I don't care what kind of oil it is, you need to change that shit frequently.

I changed mine about 1 year in at around 8.5k. No problems whatsoever. I don't have a tune yet and the car is running great. This is long life oil...but 15k NO WAY. Meet it somewhere in the middle or if you want every 5k if you are really beating her up.

i have owned a e46 m3 previously before the current e92 N55 and i would change my oil every 10k. it all depends on how you drive. if you go over 5k rpm consistantly, then you should change it every 4-5k miles. the dealer assumes the car has been driven normally thats why they do it every year or 15k. i get my oil and filter changed for 60 bucks. so its not a big hole in my wallet at all. If your in Los Angeles and you dont race every car that comes next to you then changing your oil 9-12k is fine.

This is personally from an SA who will remain anonymous.

"The 15k oil change is bullshit made my BMW to allow the engine to build up enough problems so that you'll keep coming back for service to make money. Do it every 5-7 and save your engine the trouble. It also saves them money on buying oil kits".

Here's an example...

Last year I waited until 15k do to my first oil change.. guess what happeed.. fuel pump went the first (of 4 times) right at 15k.. i found myself another 18 times at the dealer after that. 5 times was for the vanos system getting messed up

one of my friends was fully modded up, did oil changes 4-5k miles, beat the holy hell outa his car until 50,000+ and guess what.. he was at dealership maybe 2-3 times..

this doesn't got for everyone, but it MAKES you wonder.

What do bad fuel pumps have to do with your oil?

I have been doing it every 7,500 cause 15,000 is way to extreme. I have independant shops change it in between, and don't reset the service indicator. I have had 3 oil changes done in 27,000 miles the last one done in conjunction with intake port cleaning.

I have had most major service done at half the interval stated by BMW. Did the plugs at 25,000. Recently did the intake ports, and now thinking its time to flush the coolant.
