I've run 5 Bimmers and a Beemer on local cheap off brand 93 gas with no problems whatsoever in 15 years. These stations generally have a higher turnover rate so the gas is fresher. And until someone can prove there are any significant differences among brands, I'll continue to pay about 15~20 cents per gallon less.

I'd heard Shell is good, but the additives in their summer gas here in California don't do much for the engine.

Chevron or Mobil for me. Now if only we had 93......

I use Top Tier Gas:
http://www.toptiergas.com/

Some cliff note:
- TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.
- List of retailers who sell Top Tier Gas:

Dude, as long as the octane rating is the same, gas is gas. When I was an undergrad, we did an analysis of all the major brands of gasoline in chemistry lab, it's basically all the same.

The freshest cheapest bulk Costco gas for me, it actually does not cost that much more than chevron regular gas.

this is hard for me to believe...not all gas is the same..100% gas is great but most gas nowadays is mixed with 10% ethanol this makes a significant difference.

You are right, gasoline varies in different parts of the country due to regulations. So Chevron gas sold in CA isn't going to be the same as the one sold in MA and so forth. So let me clarify my point, all gas in your area/region is basically going to be the same.

If that's not enough for you, read this:

"a 2005 study indicated that Florida inspectors checked 45,000 samples to ensure the state's gas supply was up to snuff, and 99 percent of the time it was. There's little difference between brand-name gas and any other"

"What's more, your local Chevron station may sell gas refined by Shell or Exxon Mobil. Suppliers share pipelines, so they all use the same fuel. "
