Hi, first time on here so go easy guys!

I decided to take the plunge after reading this thread and managed to acquire all the necessary parts (oem, including harness)and fitted everything according to the PDF guide. The install was pretty straight forward as the guide was excellent, however my next problem is getting the heated seats to work now!

I understand that the car has to be coded before the seats will work, but can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I know the VO needs updated ($494 as far as i know) but does the climate/air con module or anything need to be coded for the heated seat buttons etc? This is where am kinda stuck! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I think I'm getting ready to attack this project.

Here is what I've gathered as well as questions for each section.

I will need to install the heating elements into the seats.
1) I have sport seats. The kit 61110400883 / 61110405003 is for non-sport seats. I don't really care about the thigh support being heated. Will this fit into sport seats? If not, should i just order the following for the sport seat heating elements?
Heating element, sports seat leather - 64116973943 $107.88
Heating element, sports backrest - 64117140539 $83.47
Heater element, thigh support - 64117138803 $20.88
2) If what I read on this thread is correct, I can skip replacing my current seat modules under my seat and instead install the two "mini" modules from the passenger side that is apart of the non-electric kit 61110400883. Has anyone tried this?

I've already installed the heated seat switch so I'm good to go there. I also have all the cables ready for my own programming.

I just need a little direction before I start dumping money into this project.

Thanks!

I have all of the same parts (including the thigh heater elements) and mini-modules (as supplied from the guy in the UK who puts them in all of the time and says it works.) However, I haven't the time or cold weather motivation to install it...yet. It still sits in a box in the garage. My seat heater switches, too, have been in the car for months...

Sounds like it should work - wiring is simple, and it makes sense. I don't see why not (especially since UK sells it as a fitting service) - I'm confident it will be fine once the VO is changed to reflect the option. I'm just wondering how difficult getting those covers on/off is going to be once the seat is out. I have my hog-rings and pliers ready... (they still use these, right?)

My heated buttons are installed but none light up. I'll program the car this weekend to see if the lights will toggle. Do you need the actual heater module for the lights on the panel to toggle or not?

I take it you got sport seat elements? Were they the exact 3 part numbers you provided before as apart of your pieced together kit?

Yes they still use hog rings. I installed the aftermarket heated pads into my old seats so I would know. I hated the aftermarket ones since the pad itself blocked the 2 center post that the hog rings attach to.

How much did you pay for your kit? Do you still have the guy's contact info as the ebay post is now expired. I bought an entire coral red interior (non heated) for my car and would absolutely love them to be heated. Hence I will try to do this retrofit prior to installing this new interior.

Yes, I'm pretty sure programming will activate the lights/buttons. Mine is plugged into the heater panel but no part of it works (yet.) I'm not sure about your question regarding being plugged into the heater panel (?) --- how else would it connect?!?

Yes - I got sport seat elements... looks a little like a hodge-podge of parts, but its all OEM and I think it'll work fine. I never checked the part numbers. I got it from the guy in the UK who comes/goes on ebay.. he's on right now again... I talked to him via email and he got the parts I needed. Sounds like he wasn't really pleased that I was doing it myself (he's in the installation business), but once he realized I was on the other side of the planet, he realized he wasn't really losing any business by supplying me parts. He really wanted to know how my install turned out and seemed to follow up a few times (although, I haven't installed it yet, so I have no news for him..) As I recall, I paid $600-700 US for all of it (oh, and a surprise $16 DHL/customs/duty bill a few months later)

This is the guy who I bought from...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1892wt_1141

Looks like these guys (who are normally pretty expensive), are selling a similar package:

(check the wiring location comment on this..)

You can also buy some used parts and building your own package.

If I was you with the sport seats, I would buy the modules, buttons and making my own harness.

I can sell you 2 modules + seat harnesses for non-powered / passenger-powered and this guy is selling the driver-powered with memory
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-3...#ht_500wt_1182

I saw a few times the buttons on sale on e90post and ebay.

The programming can be done by yourself by adding the option to your VO (see the programming section on e90post)

Good luck!

OK guys. After reading all this, I decided to forge ahead. I found a kit for my 2009 328i. The part number for the kit that I was given was 61110428194. This does not include the center console switch. Since I have no PDC, nav, etc., I just needed the seat heater switches. It's a European kit, but I don't see why it won't work on US cars.

Installation instructions are online and look quite simple. No worse than the other aftermarket kits I have installed.

The big this is coding. Found a local guy who can do it for $250 (ouch!) but hopefully it will be worth it.

All said and done, I am expecting it to cost around $650. We'll see if we can make that target.

Coding should not be so hard to do. See in the coding section how to order a cable for ~80$ and add the VO.

E90inSC, can you tell if your Euro-spec kit wiring harness matches up with the harness in your US car? Also, did it include the proper seat modules?

Hi guys,
I have an idea for heating seats, I will appreciate any comments.

I have purchased comfort seats few months back apparently heated.
I just got around to retrofit them from semi electric heated to comfort heated.
After lots of fiddling around and learning to read schematics once connected I actually noticed they are not heated after all. I still have old seats and I was thinking instead flogging them and purchasing retrofit heated pads (where cost would be similar, but buttons on the center console would not be working), rip the heating elements from old seats (cutting out leather as they are glued) stick them under new leather. This would be an easy part, but seat modules are made just per seats option, so current ones does not have pins for heating.
the idea is: take the module from old seats, bring the power and k-can Hi and Lo to it (just split the cables from comfort seat module) and plug them in. because of the limited space under the seat the secondary module would have to be inside backrest.
this way the buttons on the center console should be working fine and so as the heating.
question: in theory this is just heating circuit and k-can giving the signal to heating elements, so the car should not notice and get confused with 2 seat modules per seat, is that right?

thank you

Update 12/1

Coding does seem to be an issue. After talking to a few people, they all go the way of aftermarket for this option. This goes for my local BMW dealer as well.

The guy who originally quoted me $250, now says it cannot be done since the car was not ordered this way. By the way, if it was ordered with this option, I wouldn't be asking.

Then I went to a guy that has an Autologic unit. They are still debating whether it can be done or not. I would like to have a better idea that it can be done before spending the cash on parts, so I'm at a standstill. We are trying to determine if they can code it before the install.

I really want to get this done as the weather is turning colder here and my cheeks don't like the cold seats in the morning and after work.

Anyone who can shed some light here is welcome to comment.

UPDATE 12/2: Found a guy in CLT that thinks he can code the car for $60. Waiting for final word.

I have a 2006 325i sedan w/iDrive... pretty sure it's what everyone considers here as "pre-LCI". Forgive me, as I'm still new and learning the lingo ;-)

I'm interested in retrofitting the car with heated seats too, but still a little confused on what I needed. I have the powered non-sport leather seats with memory. After reading the this entire thread, I'm not feeling like this job can be done to OEM specs. In searching for an aftermarket solution, it appears I can get the needed heating elements and switches for a few hundred bucks.

Before I pull the trigger and jump into this I would love to hear from a few more people on this... especially from those who have information specific to my vehicle year and model.

I plan to dig through this to see if I can retrofit my car to OEM specs

This seems to be the Bermuda Triangle of retrofit threads - people show up with a nice story about what they're going to do but then they disappear never to return.

lol, yep, the forum is just too big

Regarding the retrofit

Im fitting aftermarket leather in the car very soon, so in connection, ill be fitting the heater mats in also.

This will be a retrofit for the sports seats. BMW doesnt have a retrofit for this
So if it works, then we have at least one confirmed success.. or failure

Well I finally have all the right parts and started the install. The main issue is the termination of the wiring. At the seats is OK, but at the fuse box is the issue. Still sorting out. We'll see.

What is the issue with termination? Did you get a definitive response as to coding?
