Removing Radio from VO for aftermarket

Has anybody removed the Radio from the VO so it won't throw errors
and diagnostics can still be run on the car. This would be done to add
aftermarket head unit without the traditional problems listed on the stereo
sub forum. Would it still be possible to run repairs that require software values
and or updates to the car if this was done?

I guess you would have to remove all the options that hang off the MOST
Bus to like SOS bluetooth, TCU etc..
