Anyone swapped out their e90 chrome upper trims and got nothing to do with them? You can send them my way and you can get some warm fuzzy things called cash . Perfect condition lower trims are also welcomed (even though it's said as being impossible to remove in prestine condition.... with other people mention otherwise also tho....) I would want to sell you my black ones, but I need to keep them so I can swap them back when I do my lease return a few years down the road.....

I'm guessing you can get the black trims here? I know there's shadowline at least. Use RealOEM for part number and Crown to get them (cheaper). Lemme know if you wanna sell your chrome trim after you ordered = )

u'll need to buy them new from the dealer or from crown auto....the chrome bends and loses shape when removed. the black trim doesnt

nah, the upper trim is the easy part, the stright pieces are the ones that are easily bent

but if you know what you are doing it wont bent. But let just say it is a pain in the cabooze to take it out and put it back in (without bending). The straight piece for the rear windows are the nail bitter. The straight piece for the front windows are easy to remove and to put back into place.

I will not spill the bean because everyone will hate me when they attempt this and bend it. It is possible but you got to be very patient with it when putting it on. As said, removing is not a problem as with everything else on the car.

yip, as beauderek pointed out in his shdowline trim swap thread, if you're really careful, it's possible to not bend it.

a little teaser for ya, here is what she looks like from the underneath side. That little track there slides into a grove on the black rubber insert. Also, for those who have removed the rear trim, you know that the trim sits flat in its place but when you take it out, it curls up.

Warning, do not attemp to take this out or you will be sorry. I cant help you if you dont listen

sorry for hijacking but I just wanted to share my experience on how difficult it was to deal with this trim in particular. Not recommending it for the DIY.

What do you mean by difficult dealing wiht the trim? Removing hte chrome one perfectly? or the whole process of swapping the trim?

I am only interested in 2nd hand upper trim. I'd get the lower ones from Crown.

The trim piece that I pointed out is very difficult to put back in snuggly without bending it. That straight chrome trim has a track underneath that slide into a grove on the rubber seal where both pieces are jamped between the body sheet metal and the glass. I can take it off without bending but there is no guarantee I can put it back on without bending it. Highly recommend you find a qualified tech to swap that trim. If they mess up, they buy you a new piece.

The answer is yes, very difficult to put it back into place for both front and back. You might not realize this but that trim piece is held in place by a plastic/rubbery thing underneath it (which you cannot see). If you look at the trim carefully at the end tip, you will see a black thingy that hold the chome piece in place. It is more visible if you are looking at a car with chrome trim. Well, I dont know if you understand from my photo, but the trim piece has a track that slides into a grove on the black plastic piece which is jammed in between the glass panel and the sheet metal. Sliding the trim into the grove on the black plastic piece is not that easy, lots of resistance since it is designed to fit snuggly together. That is the most difficult part of the installation (in my opinion).
