Thinking about repainting my e92!

My e92 is silver and for some time now I have been thinking about painting it jet black. I know that repainting it black would potentially hurt the resale value but I'm planning on keeping this car until it falls apart. I just want some input from u guys and is there some place where I can order BMW's jet black paint. Thanks you guys!

I totally understand the desire to change the color of your car - it is almost like getting a new car for a fraction of the price. I do, however, strongly suggest you not go jet black. My 550i is that color, and even with the mtech kit and other add-ons, the black paint washes it all out and completely hides the lines on the car. Both of our 3 series are silver and I drive them 9 times out of ten because they just plain look better to me.

Obviously some will disagree, but black is not the most flattering color for BMW and I will never buy one that color again.

Why not try wrapping it in a matte color? It really works on the E92.

Painting a car is going to cost you, so IMO i'd paint it a unique color not just something simple, I'm not saying paint it green or anything... lol

I say wrap too. A proper color change would be crazy expensive, and a perfect black paint job will require prep that will drive the cost up even higher.

For the money it would cost to do it properly you can probably sell your car an get a newer black m3 or 335

i love JB on the M3, but i agree. If your looking for a change, a wild-looking vinyl would be my route

For a proper paint job your gonna spend way to much and it not be worth it. I agree that a vinyl is probably your best bet.

Vinyl Wrap it. Will cost some $$$ but wont hurt resale value and can do custom colors for less.

Full re-spray will cost a fortune. Especially depending on how far you want to go. If you consider stripping the doors and rubber seals and replace all the rubber seals around the windows - it's mad. If you were to restore a vintage car that is s different matter.
And JB as a color of choice
Just like the others said, get a wrap first.

Never ever under any circumstances on pain of death repaint your car. Surefire way to send your car's resale value down the shitter. Unless there was a catastrophe where you were forced to repaint, don't. Vinyl wrap or just buy a car in the color you want. Just my two cents.

He already said he's keeping the car forever.

Ah yes you are right sir! Well, I still wouldn't do it. It is never the same job as from the factory. Good luck with whatever you decide OP

it shouldn't be the same. a full respray should be BETTER than factory.

anyhow, if you're keeping the car forever, i'd wait until you need to file the next inevitable insurance claim. at least it will offset the cost somewhat.

also, don't go jet black. if you want something dark, go with one of the metallic black individual colors.

The odds are definitely against you keeping the car "forever".
Things change. I would say you are much more likely to have a different car in the next 5 years or so.
It would be a lot more practical to buy a car in the color you want.

1. Professional/artist with years of experience.
2. Better, thicker, more exotic paints.
3. Multiple layers of base and color.
4. Thicker clearcoat.
5. Wet sanding with each layer.

At the very least, you get a paint job with zero (0) orange-peel effect.

If you do, dont get jet black. It's notorious for how easily it swirls and scratches.
