Hmm. Maybe this is a much tougher job with xenons. Thats the only thing I had not considered..

This is when Halfords come into play. They offer to fit bulbs/wipers etc for helpless females for a few quid, get them to do the bulbs on an E90 and they can really earn it!

wtf. diagram? Its not difficult. open the damn bonnet and aim for the back of the big shiny thing with clear plastic at the front that makes light

theres 2 black plastic boxes, the nearest one to center is for main beam. the dipped sides are far over to the corner. remove box. unclip bulb, remove bulb, then reverse to re-fit.

a torch might be requrired to see what your doing but thats it.

Weird Pattern

I spent a long time in the dark the other night changing the headlight bulb and now have lots of band aid's on me.
Now in the dark I see a strange pattern in the road when the lights are on, could this mean the bulb is upside down? How would I know the correct way?

Did mine recently and you can fit them upside down, but it looks wrong. The square notch on the bulb goes at the bottom and the bulb fits flush with the back of the housing. Easy to sort in the daylight!

i changed the headlight and went for the facelift ones,but must admit this is the long and expensive way of replacing headlight bulbs.

Must be a nightmare having bob geldoff and sting all over you.....

Before the BMW I had a Lexus IS220D and one of the Xenon's went in that.... what a complete nightmare.... it required wheel off, bumper hanging off, had to remove the whole cluster to get to the back of it to change the bulb.

Lexus wanted around 400 to do it, I got a OSRAM bulb from bulgaria off Ebay and me and my dad did it in about a day!!! (he's a mechanic for 21 years).

I thought Germany had a law that the lights had to be fixable at the side of the road?

i must admit 6 pots are a lot difficult than 4 pots

can change any bulb on a halogen lamps in under 15mins the hardest part in putting the black plastic covers back on

Ive done mine today and its a bloody faff. Worse still I have dropped the retaining clip for the dipped light cover into the headlamp itself and I cant get it out. I hope I can get hold of one as I dont want to have to remove everything to be able to shake it out of the lamp.

Not all german engineering is so bizarre - making simple tasks difficult; on my Octavia (mk2) the whole headlight unit slides right out after undoing one plastic thumbscrew and pulling a little lever. Bulbs can be changed holding the unit on your lap.
Bet that bit was designed by a czech though
