ZF transmission problem -- BMW Service Bulletin

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=504130

If you're still under warranty, make sure to check for symptoms ASAP and head out to the dealership for getting it fixed.

I believe ZF transmissions are on the 335 and not the 328?

I feel your pain on the driveway stain issue, PITA!! Mine leaked at 90K.

Was covered under extended warranty so luckily only cost me $200 deductible.

The Service bulletin mentions ZF transmissions.

The 328 has a GM DCT tranny.

TSB is attached. From March 2010 but still holds true.

If you see the symptoms and are under warranty, have the dealership do the repair.

The 328 Manual is not a GM, only automatic...
But not the issue here since this seems to only apply to automatic transmissions

Had mine replaced at 78,000kms with fresh oil/pan etc. Is it good from now on or should I expect to get this done again around the 160k mark? I'd prefer to get it done proactively if it's a time-thing and avoid the potential unexpected spill/stain again.

This problem even happens on 06/07 E9x, E6X as well...the plastic pan warps as well. The gasket, sealing sleeve and hardware can be changed with just a top up. A full flush, or entire pan is usually not necessary unless you do it when the pan is hot (it will warp) or has warped already.

Definitely remind your shop of choice to inspect your trans. during your oil changes at least, catching it early will save a rebuild later on if not addressed.

If its under warranty, yes. If you are out of warranty at a dealer (first of all, I don't know why that would happen) then I'd get it checked at an Indy shop. We quote less than half of that of the dealer at our shop.

I think I had this too. Noticed the leaks on the garage floor after the car had been sitting for a few days. Took it in a while back and they did mention it was to do with a transmission leak.
