Angry HPFP failure? Video included - Help!!

Video:

Description:
Whenever I cold start my car, it usually, not always, does this. Works on the second time though. I'm taking it to the BMW dealership on Jan 8th to get it repaired and store it in my garage for the winter.

Any ideas if this is actually the HPFP or something more serious? and could this be covered under warranty?

defiantly not hpfp. get your starter checked out.

hpfp would have a long start, your car started pretty quickly.

If the hpfp went bad wouldn't it sound like it was going to stall after the start?

Agree with others here. Sounds like something's wrong with the starter. HPFP problem would cause long cranks, not grinding sound.

I think it's the wrong foot warning system. OP is pressing the clutch with his right foot. BMW doesn't want you to do that and it's a safety feature.

How long has it been doing this? My HPFP just failed a couple days ago and you won't be driving the car long once it starts dying. I had a bad cold start in the morning (plus engine malfunction warning) but after 2nd start it was fine. It gradually got worse as I drove too/from work and I didn't make it home, car would go into limp mode or completely die.

nope...seems like either a starter or electrical issue as the noise you first hear isnt the car actually cranking over...it sounds like the starter spinning without engauging..
