What to get for $2000?

Hi guys. my new 328's base audio system sounds like a boom box. I had Harman Kardon and Logic 7 in my other two bimmers, they were not the best but I was generally happy with them. The new 328's base system can use some majorimprovements.

I am more into classsical music, soft rock, pop, NO rap or hip hop stuff. So I am looking for clean, solid bass. I am not a DIY guy so I will have a shop to install the stuff. I am looking to spend under $2000 including installation. What would you guys recommend?

Thank you very much!

If you are willing to self install musicarnw kit

you will need some kind of processor to straighten out the head unit eq
so that means a Jl Cleansweep if you go the MS-8 route you will break your budjet if you put decent speakers and a decent amp in . This is assuming you got the Base stereo system in 2010 and not the Hi Fi that has been re released.
Do you have tweeters if you do you probably have Hi Fi . You need to identify the system you have. If you have a 2011 produced after a certain date you may
have Hi Fi which wouldn't require a processor but you said base system.

ctuna, thanks for the reply. I wasn' able to find the car's manufacture date, it's not displayed on the sticker attached to the driver side door jamb. However, it was fresh off the delivery truck at the dealer last week so I assume it was built in August, maybe?

Anyway, it has a tweeter near each side mirrors, one speaker on each of the front doors, and two speakers on the back deck.

When I had my car tinted yesterday, the shop owner suggested that I get a pair of Focal K@ 100KRS (I think) to replace the tweeters and the front door speakers, leave the subwoofer and the two rear speakers alone, install an Alpine processor and a JL amp, he didn't say which model. He said for what I listen to, that would be much better even than the Logic 7. It will cost $1950, parts and labor.

I need to hear more opinions first before I can make up my mind.

Thank you.

The link Ctuna provided you to my company's site will help you determine exactly which system you have.

Until you are certain if your non-Premium Sound system is Stereo or HiFi, you won't know what you need to do.

I feel that for the budget you mention, you should be spending less on your doors and more on the rest of the system. We would never recommend that someone spend 2K and not get new underseat woofers.

VP, the only thing from the spec sheet is "AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player audio system with HD Radio". I have the iDrive.

there is one tweeter in board of the side mirror

There is one speaker on front door

There are two speakers on the back deck.

There are two subs under the front seats.

Inside the pop-out gray tray in the left rear corner of the trunk, there is something that looks like amp in silver color. So is it safe to say it's a HiFi system?

Thank you.

Here are the pictures:

You have the re released Hi Fi

Which means you don't have to have a processor.

There are many examples of systems on this forum I would try to get a look at them before you decide.

I don't know if you have the coupe or sedan/wagon .
The coupe has a shallower door and your speaker selection will be more limited if you do.

That is the 2010+ HiFi amp, yes. It has some crossover filtering and some fixed equalization, so it's safe to call it a low-end processor.

Pretty sure that tweeter sail is for a coupe.

So if you have an E92 coupe, then you have a more limited set of options as far as door speakers.

Per the vendor rules, I am not permitted to present our offerings to you in this post. But let's just say that we take care of inquiries like yours all the time, with great results.

I should mention that since I have a 328xi and you have a 328xi, they must be the same car

Well, then, you have a lot more flexibility on the door speakers!
