Typically, wiper inserts lasts up to a year before they begin to streak/skip/and chatter across the windshield when used. Your problem appears to be abnormal, therefore I would suggest visiting your local dealer to perform the procedure I am about to post with illustrations. It may appear to be over engineered or simply ridiculous, I agree that a pair of channel locks or regular pliers and a watchful eye could do the job. Precision is key, hence the use of these special tools. The end result is therefore effective if done correctly. Guesstimation versus precision, guess which one proves to be precise by definition. Skills or experience of the technician following the procedure won't matter much. If one can see, read (alpa-numeric/english language/sesame street contents), walk upright, with 2 hands/eyes/and not a zombie....your chances of getting this fixed........90 precent.
The 10 percent goes towards the possibility of you ending up with a brand new windshield because the tool fell on top of it or something of that nature.
Follow along with the picture and see for yourself.
----Wiping quality is increased if the approach angle of the windscreen wiper arms is precisely adjusted.
This has got to be one of the best posts I've ever seen on this forum. I can only imagine a SA looking at us as if we have three heads when we show him this doc! Just imagine, if you've ever had your windshield replaced, how it is unlikely it is that the angles would be correct per this doc. If any of you have ever taken off your wiper arms, they are extremely difficult to get off. When I had my glass replaced, the wiper arms were not in the correct position--they would go off the glass, so I had to adjust myself.

Now if we were to assume techs have such docs available for more serious issues, they probably know the solution for every recurring trouble that anyone here experiences. What's curious is why BMW is so reluctant to fix things under warranty.

Use Isopropyl Alcohol to wipe down your windshield and your wiper blades. I had some chatter problems as well when my E90 was new. Service replaced the wiper blades but didn't help much. Actually, a lot of times its the windshield itself that's causing the problem (i.e. Car wax, contaminants). I find the RainX Windshield fluid also adds to the problem initially but once the windshield if nicely coated with a layer of those stuff, the chatter goes away.

As for 3rd party blades, I can only recommend PIAA Super Silicon. They are extremely quiet and performs great on my other car. I don't know how well it fits on the E90 though.

As for sizes, I think it's (24" driver) 19" but I could be wrong.
+1. I put rain-X on my dad's windshield, and it was fine until he went through an automatic car wash that applied spray on wax. Chattered until the rain-x wore off.

I'm getting chattering now, but I think it's caused from a lot of sand pits in the window (wiper squeeges water into pit, then you have a dry spot). I dunno, but until I get new glass, I'm living with it.

This worked for me: I concluded that the wiper arm is having too much trouble dealing with a 24" long blade. I purchased a 21" Rainex blade and gave it a try. Much, much better, and there is virtually no discernible difference in visibility with the smaller wiper. No, 24" Rainex and 24" Goodyear wipers didn't work.

Alcohol is the answer

It is not always the case, but this time it is true - alcohol.

Actually read this thread yesterday afternoon after spending two hours in the car in the rain with chatter the whole way. Once I got to work, I used an alcohol hand wipe (like you get at the rib shack) to wipe down the blades. No chatter on the way home.

I have found that the chatter has become more prevalent after switching to Meguiars Gold car wash soap. The cheaper purple Meguiars soap did not cause this problem.

I have also used (as previously mentioned) isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel on the windshield and wiper blades with great results.

I bought new Rain-X ones for mine, and threw them away 2 weeks later. Garbage.

Bought Bosch ones and have been very happy with those.

My 08 e90 never had that chattering problem until they changed the wiper blades recently. I brought it back to the dealer and they said "couldn't duplicate wiper issue"?

I had the same noise, figured mine were worn out so i bought these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180712871707...84.m1439.l2649

They are about as basic/cheap as can be, but I've had them for a couple weeks and no annoying noise. But I had to modify them a little to use the oem cover. I don't know if this will fix your problem though since you have already replaced yours several times.

I thought you were saying that if you have some alcohol, you won't notice/won't bother you.

They never can because all they do is blast the windshield wiper fluid on it gives enough lubrication to not make the noise, as was my experience. You probably have a phone that takes video. Video it, and take it back to them.

Cant believe this hasnt been mentioned but I use Zaino on my winshield. just like the body i use it on everything. Doesnt streak like rainx. put on z5, wait 15 min, take it off with micrfiber. Then use just a little bit of z8. Just apply with microfiber and its good for a lot longer than rainx in my opinion. Hardly need to use wipers while driving.

Try taking the blade off and fitting it the other way around. To do this you need to unclip the pivot point plastic cover and clip it on the other way.

I use aquapel on my windshield, works like magic. It also eliminates the dirt the wiper does not touch (edge of windshield.)
