Considering going back to 2 cars

Hello all,

I'm considering going back to two cars and I want something which can handle my annual commute of approx 20-30k miles easily, comfortably and safely.

I want to pay around 12-15,000 for a 2007-2008 ish car. I'm focussing on smooth, automatic diesels and have found a few nice 325/530d's, although getting good age/spec/mileage combinations is proving tricky.

I've looked at a few Mercs, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at - there are so many 'classes' that S, SLK, CLK, C etc are all merging in my mind.

Can anyone advise or point me in the right direction?

The 2nd car will be of the TTRS/M3/M6/Z4M/911/etc flavor, so fairly exclusively for weekends. The diesel I'm looking for need only be attractive and luxurious really. 35-40+ mpg would be nice...

Matt

I'd look for a 530d rather than a 330d. Ride comfort and compusre is better and would be appreciated when covering that sort of annual mileage.

How about an oddball choice of Lexus GS450h? 350hp, 35mpg, fully loaded, lowish road tax, etc. It's the japanese Mercedes donchaknow..... Ahhh Haaa!!

Having owned a GS300 before my E92, they are extremely comfortable, extremely reliable but a little dull - just what you need for the commute

Merc diesels of the 320/280/ (E, C, CLK etc) aren't a patch on the BMW or Audi equivalents

For Mercedes a E280/E320/E350 CDI should do the job. All are great engines.

You would get a decent 07 saloon 335d for that money mate.

Then get a 911 for the weekends.

I don't want a 3 chaps sorry. Original post should have read 525/530!

Too crashy. I especially wouldn't want a saloon Carl so I'm probably best sticking to a 5 or big Merc/similar.

Lexus GS are too ugly, IS the 2.2 diesel is crap!!

I've run two cars now for the last ten years and have to say I'd struggle to just run one again now. The daily cars is just stress free motoring andkeeps the toy nice and interesting for longer.

aybe a diesel estate for all the donky work as it will cover just about everything and make you feel the extra cost of running two cars justifiable?
