Thumbs up Dinan Stage 3 Suspension Installed!

Ok okÖ Dinan is pricy and this kit is no exception. I got the Stage II because I already have the camber plates which make it Stage 3. The parts alone were $2100 with a 35% discount. And itís 12hrs of labor because of the new bushings. If youíre looking for a slammed and stiff ride, this is definitely not kit for you. If want great handling that you can still live with everyday (especially on California roads) this kit is PERFECT.

Truthfully I was worried when I first saw the car after the kit had been installed. I didnít notice really any difference at all but a closer look revealed the lower ride height. I didnít really want it too low anyway because I donít want it to scrape everywhere (the stock ZSP already scrapes a lot). I got in the car and took it for a quick drive around the block. I immediately noticed the stiffer spring and busier ride. One thing though really surprised me; the ride quality, although busier, improved! It doesnít crash over bumps anymore. So the ride really wasnít that much different. I was thinking that may the difference in handling would be the same.

Thankfully it wasnít! There is a massive improvement all around. The lazy initial bite of the stock ZSP suspension is gone! The steering response is instant and the grip stays with you throughout the turn. Mid-corner understeer is also gone and it never rears it ugly head all the way through track out. The body roll is controlled and smooth. Mid-corner adjustments are made with the throttle. With the stock ZSP you had to really jump on or off the throttle to get a response. Now if I lift sharply, the nose pivots beautifully and I can roll on the gas without washing out the front end.

The only things I didnít really like was the fact that the front fender gap is a little large because of the camber plates, and I canít get up my driveway anymore without wheel spin. The roll bars are stiff enough to make that care go up on three wheels on uneven surfaces. On my driveway the left rear tire will go up in the air. With no LSD it just spins and DSC really doesnít help. Now I have an excuse to go and buy and LSD.

Overall I think this Dinanís Stage 3 is well worth the price. I heard that Steve Dinan himself tunes all the cars by flogging them down the road to his house (which I heard is a lot of fun). It really fits their motto of ďperformance without sacrifice.Ē

Wow, this thread back from the dead lol! Long term - not one mechanical issue. I'm really happy with the handling but you need to increase the front tire width. I'll get some pics up of it at the track but I'm out of town. Might not be able to get any up until Saturday.

thanks, my next MOD will be BBS RGR 18' staggered set-up. It will have 8.5' on the front (0.5' more than the original 18' set-up).

Looks like I will go with Dinan Stage 3 suspension first before the lightweight flywheel.

BTW, awesome ride you have down at CA.

I just wanted correct something I said in the original review. The ride is really stiff and on California roads can be quite harsh. The stock setup wasn't much better with run flats. That's why I said the ride was alright.

Most of us just did (although I had an embarassing issue with going). Expect to see us a lot at Infineon and T-Hill this spring/summer.
