Quicky regarding Automatic wipers

Just noticed that if I have my windscreen wipers switched on using the auto sensing switch, if I switch the car off the wipers just stop dead. Mid-sweep.

If I start the car they are still just parked there (looks stupid if they are just lying across the middle of the screen). I have to activate the wipers to get them to park again.

Is this normal ?

It is very cheap. My Jag would park the auto wipers even with the key out of the ignition in mid sweep.

I'm sure on the MINI they would never stop in the middle of the screen when you turned off the engine/ignition.

I think its a good thing they don't automatically move when you switch on the ignition/start the engine. Picture the scene... the wipers stop dead in the middle of the screen as you switch off and get out the car. That night there's a heavy frost and the wipers stick to the screen. Next morning when you start the engine, they don't automatically move and tear the wipers to shreds!

Good point though - they could at least rest in the proper position at ignition turn off.

Yep my last car E46 coupe and the current car E92 - will just abort the wipe process once you pull out the key. It has always been a bit of a bugbear for me.

Thanks guys. At least I know it is not a glitch.

Bit of a poor show from BMW - it wouldn't take much to make the wipers park after switching off rather than just freezing - or at the very least park the frozen wipers when I restart the car rather than leave them sprawled over my windscreen.

Looks cheap. Wonder why they overlooked that ?
