3 dead and reporting 70 still unaccounted for.
Totally bizarre accident. It's not as if it was difficult to see the rocks. The expert on the news said it could take between 6-12 months to work out what went wrong. Is it really that hard to work it out? |

Just watched this on news...seemed to take along time to take everyone off the ship. If they were not so close to the coast, it could have been a lot worse....

Surely it can't be too hard? Down to 40 unaccounted for with no further deaths. |

There will be lots of speculation, but what I cannot understand is, if power was lost, why the ship did not anchor before getting perilously close to navigational danger. The hole ripped in the hull by those rocks, would seem to indicate that the ship was still making significant headway when it struck. |

It's over 116,000 tonnes. How are they going to remove it?
There aren't any cranes that can haul that thing up. I presume, patch the holes, pump the water out and hope it re-floats? The Titanic was a tiny ship next to this thing...

Good bit of intel there Scooba, where did you get that from? I think they were the company who where involved in the salvage of the Russian "Kursk" submarine ten years ago. If they can salvage a sunken 20,000 tonne submarine, this will be a walk in the park, and they will make a lot of money.

Sheps, there are complex laws governing salvage, if the Company have "salvage rights" then there is a lot of money to be made. I guess that they will have a very lucrative contract with the vessel owner's though.
