In my opinion, you nearly always need to adjust the headlights of a factory car as they are invaribly too low. I always adjust mine to the the left hand triangle of raised light on the kerb side in the same on both sides to ensure maximum reinforcement of light from both sides of the car.

The fogs are like all fogs - not much cop except for filling in the gap of light immediately in front of the car and on twisty lanes to illuminate the nearside kerb near the car a little more.

In my opinion, the standard halogens are as good as halogens can ever be. Xenon's are always better much to be honest we really shouldn't be having to pay so miuch for them given that they are standard on Renaults and the like !!
I have upgraded the bulbs in mine to the Philips vision plus / Osram Silver star and to be honest, have not found much difference. Aligning the lights better makes the most improvement in my experience.

I always raise my xenons about 3 full rotations of the leveler screw. Enough to light the sides of the road better but not enuf to blind oncoming traffic.

Buying a used 320si I was fortunate to find one which had been specced up by the previous owner with xenons etc . I have them on car #1 aswell when you get spoilt once by having the extra illumination its really noticeable and bad news to have a non xenon bulbed car.
Another plus point by having the xenon lights is that they more than pay for themselves not just in better night driving but they pick up yellow painted speed cameras and the reflective checkers on police cars parked up with cameras miles away now to me that does make the 3-500 seem worth it.

Paul

Plus E90 with xenons have the cute angel eye side lights aswell -bling

Know what you mean,i've covered over 70,000 miles in less than 2 years, the lights were always poor.I fitted a set of Phillips Extreme replacement bulbs and that really did improve things, although still no where near as good as Xenon's.

I have to say, I found my halogens to be pretty good

I have some HIDs from a previous car that I thought I might fit, but I doubt I'll bother they're that good, although it's the wrong time of year to make a TRUE assesment.

Funny how there's such a difference in perception?

Had Xenons on the last three 3s now (two e46 330d sports and the 335d) and wouldn't have another without them. The 120 has halogens and I haven't had much chance to use them in the dark yet but they don't seem too bad, I'll probably end up changing the bulbs though. I've changed them on other cars with good results.

Regards

Chris
