I thought that was a good speech. Reinforcing that there are no troops currently in Iraq was nice to hear, as was that there is no longer a threat from Bin Laden hanging over our country.
Now the legislative branch needs to stop bickering and give him some bills to pass.

I was disappointed to say the least.
I expected at least one burst of song to come from his lips.... ![]()

You'd think there was no national debt whatsoever. I'm sure glad, he musta fixed that when we weren't looking, being a magical being and all. I sure thought it was gonna be a big deal come fall.

Funny that you say that Old Army. The rebuttal from your beloved GOP was from none other than Mitch Daniels. You remember him, under his leadership as head of The Office of Management and Budget, the federal budget went from a $236 Billion surplus to a $400 Billion deficit in just 2 years.
He's also the genius that said the Iraq war would only cost us $60 Billion. The GOP may not dig the policies of the Dems, and particularly they do NOT like President Obama's policies and ideas. But at least you guys could put forward some candidates or politicians that aren't abject failures with your policies.

WTF are you looking at?

In all honesty, the Dems are pretty split in their opinions as well. It is becoming more and more apparent that the likely hood of our country finding a president that represents the future of this nation may never happen. Very sad... I don't have favorable opinions of any of the Republican Party's candidates. I also don't have a favorable opinion of Obama. What I like the least is the common democrat voter's need to support our president blindly. I also don't like the common republican voter's need to bash our president ignorantly. We should hold our politicians to a higher standard. We should hold our president to a higher standard. |

I'm retired from the US Army. Obama inherited a real mess. It did not matter who won in 2008 Obama or McCain, because we would still be digging ourselves out of this mess and everyone would still be pissed off. Fighting on two fronts, borrowing money from China for seven years, and not paying attention to our economy for eight years is reallity. It is going to take time, but bullshit promises every four years and both Democrats and Republicans refusing to do what is right for the country instead of their own egos will never fix the problems.

no problem. Were just going to pass legislation to further put a negative outlook on businesses that arent doing that well due to the recession. we have a spending problem.... simple as that. We push the wellfare state, we want everyone to live the American dream (white picket fence) and then say, "oh it wasnt our fault all of these people defaulted on loans they couldnt afford (but were allowed to be given by legislation and more over using "private firms" to further push this agenda) No doubt Obama inherited a problem by spend happy Bush, but spending more on silliness, passing harmful legislation, and not admitting that congress was liberal during some of that time is just plain selective hindsight. |

Imagine if you and your wife are both working, you both bring home $75k a year each. Your total yearly income would be $150k. Now when your wife loses her job, you'll be down to $75k per year. Now, do you just tighten the belt and cut your expenses by 50%, or does your wife go out and get another job? You still have the same mortgage you did when you were pulling in $150k, do you move? You have the same cars, do you sell them? No, you get another job and keep on bringing in revenue. Currently the Bush era tax cut are some of the largest hits to our budget in the US. If we make the tax cuts permanent it's like a $3 trillion hit to our budget over 10 years. Maybe we need to stop giving out tax breaks to those that do not have to have them right now. As one report I read stated, the Bush Era Tax Cuts cost $400 Billion just in servicing the debt it created. And the Tax cuts themselves have accounted for almost 50% of our national debt over the past 10 years. If you recall, the Bush era tax cuts came as a response to the surplus that was left over after 8 years of President Clinton. More info can be found here: Bush Era Tax Cuts

oh lawd...here we go again....plain and simple...if we taxed all income at 100% over $250,000/yr...we still have a deficit
we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem... Also, if you raise taxes on CG to 30% you will see the stock market implode as hedge funds run for the hills for more tax efficient investments...and you will see everyday citizens 401k and pensions take a HUGE hit... Try to "soak the rich" you end up fcuking everyday people... Also, when CG was cut to 15%....the tax revenue increased....care to hazzard a guess why???
