Using Coding Cable/Software for Diagnostics

I am a newbie and working my way through the coding forum posts learning. I have some interests in learning how to code my car ('08 335xi) for some pretty basic stuff, like the roll windows up with the FOB, registering a new battery etc.; but I was also wondering about whether or not I could use the same equipment for diagnostics (reading/erasing codes, etc.).

No problems now with the car, knock on wood, but just wondering for down the road maintenance. I have not seen any posts on this topic specifically. Any information is greatly appreciated. I have ordered the cable from the code your car free post from (http://www.one-stop-electronics.com).

Also, if anyone has any information on how to register a battery it would be greatly appreciated. I bought the car off of a private seller who replaced the battery with one he got at wal mart, and I was wondering how to register it (a non-oem battery) whenever I get my cable.

There is a thread on it

There is a thread on it

Try doing a search here
also try a google search

You can do diags and stuff from a basic coding setup with inpa
If you can somehow get a hold of DIS57, progman and Tis that's the same as
what bmw uses. It nearly impossible to download this. It comes with some
of the older cables but that's not the cable you need.
There are no manuals for the use of these but most of the things
that people want to do have a thread somewhere on the net .

You need a laptop with the right operating system to make this work or
virtual software like vmware to emulate it . And older machine running windows xp 32 bit pro seems to be the one that is the least hassle. There are threads that say win 7 pro with xp mode will work.

Many thanks again. Any help on what search words should I use? I only seem to get hits on re-coding related posts.

Well on this subforum

"battery registration" brings up about 8 threads
if you go to google I think you need to bmw or e90 or something like that
with it.

Thanks. Finally found what I was looking for in this thread (

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...y+registration

Had no problem finding the battery registration process, but the steps to recode for non-oem type batteries (like the standard one the previous owner bought off the shelf at wal-mart) was always missing. Many thanks.

I will look around for the software you mentioned. Thanks for the links.
