Moving from RFTs to Regular Summer Tyres - Advice needed!!

After reading many posts on this forum, I have decided to take the plunge and replace my standard RFTs with non-RFTs. Currently driving a 2008 320d M Sport, running Potenza RE050A RFTs 225/45/R17s at the front and 255/40/R17s at the back.

I live in Malta and cannot find any of the premium tyre brands available in stock locally (Michelin, Pirelli, Conti's, Bridgestone and Dunlops). UK Online sites do not ship to Malta.

What I have found available locally are the following:

Vredestein Ultras Sessanta's in the correct size, speed and load rating. I have always gone for a premium brand tyre before hence my hesitation.
I would like to hear any feedback from anyone who is currently running Ultras Sessanta's. Most of my miles are done driving in urban conditions, but I enjoy the odd track day blast every now and then.

Have also found Toyo Proxes T1R's but the local agent does not have the 255/40/R17 in stock and has suggested I fit a 265/40/R17 on the standard rims instead. What's feedback on the Proxes? Anyone fixtted a 265 tyre on a 255 rim before? Is this safe?

Any feedback would be very welcome as I'm confused to say the least and need to replace my tyres very soon.

Swapped to kuhmo ku39 and couldn't be happier. Just had the rears replaced with new ones. They cope very well even with 340bhp and nearly 700nm torque!

Just what I wanted to hear where did you get yours fitted?
The cheapest I have found is on camskill but most places near me are wanting £10/£15 per wheel to fit them

Got around 14k out of them which IMO is pretty good. Even wear across the whole tyre and no inner edge wear.

Got all four fitted for £495

Have you seen the roads in Malta?
And the amount of rain?

Maltese roads are not very good by any standard, and definitely worse than anything you find in London!! Current RFTs have lasted well with 25,000 miles done so far, and two track days thrown in. Wear has been even, and tyre performance has been average. M Sport setup and RFTs combo on Maltese roads, make for a very hard and uncomfortable ride. Hence my desire to ditch the RFTs!

Grip in the wet, whilst important (for obvious reasons ;-) is not a paramount consideration here in Malta, since it does not rain much generally. On the other hand, grip in the dry, and tyre wear are important considerations, especially since changing the 4 tyres will set me back £1,000.

Any other feedback on the Vreds? What is the grip in the dry like with Vreds? What about wear? Anyone tried them on a track?

What about mounting a 265/40/R17 tyre on a standard BMW alloy thatís supposed to be shod with 255/40/R17 tyre? Has anyone done this before? Is it safe? Any feedback would be as always welcome.

Unhappy

I'm still as confused as when I started this thread! Nobody else has anything else to add? Would appreciate some additional feedback.
