I honestly do not have an official answer to that except money and a big change in rules coming. I don't think anyone wanted to invest the money into making an interim change when the rules are rumored to be changing significantly in favor of fuel savings.

DTM should be announced as coming to the states at some point this year (2013-14 open season) and that too will be associated with NASCAR/GRAND AM, meaning that will be a naturally aspirated V8 tube chassis car series (sound familiar). Grand AM DPs are rumored to get to use turbo smaller displacements engines of equivalent power at that point. DTM is bigger money and factory sponsored so NASCAR is going to adapt other series to accommodate it seems.

I haven't been given any official statement on this but that is what is being rumored.

That is just the engine Turner initially got approved. They were running their Rolex GT as a M6 the first year. They then used the same Riley tube frame chassis setup and put a one-off carbon fiber M3 body on it. I am guessing rather than changing mid-stream and throw all their R&D and race data away. They kept the S62 V8, rather than modifying the engine subframe and mounts. It leads to a lot of changes on the car.


On a side note:

BMW is in talks with Grand-Am to bring the Z4 GT3 to Rolex next year. That will have the S65 V8. The 4.4L version found in the GTS.

I was there too. Those guys from M Performance School looked like they were having a blast. Friday in the rain it was a drift-fest. So much fun to watch… but how'd you get a ride?? We're def heading back and want to make sure we can jump in next time.

Yeah I was back and forth picking up people from the airport so i missed Friday's run. I know a few of the Performance Ctr guys so they got me in. Seemed like the rest of the ppl were VIPs. Bobby Rahal's wife being one of them, she was in the car ahead of me. I think Friday would have been an easier day, you just have to know where to be at the pit wall.
