There is a link where someone made sure that the values on the injector were were values that were ACTUALLY and CORRECTLY calibrated via the IPNA software. Also, if all the injectors had the decoupling element. With that, the rough idle went away.

People with issues they can't diagnose are supposedly finding that their injectors (installed by a 3rd party - in most cases the dealer) are coded wrong. Now you can do it yourself without any expensive hardware, so it's worth a shot to look in to

+1. Sorry I wasn't more descriptive. Difficult to copy and paste on phone. Worth a shot. I am thinking of doing the same. Need to find someone in socal with the cable I can quickly borrow.

I'm going to talk to my SA about it. Given I had two leaking injectors, and the car wouldnt drive after I had 2 replaced, I'm thinking this may be my issue.

Bought my car used (42k miles, seeing problems around 52k miles) so don't know if they replaced any of the injectors. going to check.

Having the same stuttering idles that have dangerously come close to stalling my car.

Woke up to a misfiring car again last week. Codes for misfires on 4, 5 & 6. Also got a couple others, including a "mix" fault.

Plugs on 4 &6 were fouled and wet, and injectors ans plugs were swapped. They left cyl 5 alone, despite my code pull that it was misfiring.

Still had the rough idle when i picked it up Friday, but it otherwise ran fine.

Started car yesterday, misfiring and jerking and bumping along as I pulled it out of the driveway. Cyl 5 misfiring (again)

Called roadside, and its back under the kinfe today. Seems like the cold starts may be exacerbating the problem, as a couple of the misfire events, and often the most uneven/stumbling starts seem to happen when its cold.

Getting pretty frustrated at this point. They def should have replaced the injector when they had it.

For those that haven't seen it, here's the injector recall notice. I like how they call it an "emissions recall." LOL. It's that kind of ducking the situation that has them in a class action lawsuit right now.

I paid for 1 injector out of pocket right after Xmas. Had problems 2 weeks ago where it was stumbling and hesitating again. I am out of warranty. I had 3 injectos failing, and they told me I might as well replace the other 2 to save on the labor. I complaine to BMWNA, and they covered the parts; as I just had to pay for labor.

I missed the recall by about 3 months on the build time of my car in 2009, but I am pretty sure there is an issue with the injectors that wasn't yet taken care of; as BMW didn't hesitate to cover.

Add me to this list now Funny how these things come in waves with a bunch of people having a similar issue.

I cleaned my VANOS solenoids last weekend, thinking it was a cam timing issue. Seemed to help for about 1 day then went back to the shaking engine. On "cold" starts, it's not very cold here, I get the shakes and SES light. Today, I did a high boost run (18psi) and got a CEL but car felt fine (said limp but had full power). Turn if off and back on, CEL went away. Scanned with BT when I got home....no codes. Same goes with the shaking engine and SES, no codes.

Car is going in the dealer tomorrow for a walnut shell blast, I'm sure my valves are gunked at 70K. Hope this helps. Next step is going to be and oil/spark plug change, if that doesn't work, followed by injectors if all else fails.

Your entire fuel system is covered under extended warranty for 100k miles. You shouldn't be paying for anything, particularly where the DI system that is failing is a function of both the high pressure pump, and the injectors that require that extremely high pressure.

High pressure or not, I've never seen a car with such a ridiculous defective injector issue. Reminds me of hte VW/Audi coil pack failures in the mid 2000s. They couldn't produce enough replacement parts, so they only replaced the ones throwing faults, full well knowing that they'd all eventually fail and crap out.

Walnut shell blast is great. THese things get really gunked up (I've had them done at 20k and 40k). Car gets a lot of power back. Unfortunately, doesn't help with hte rough idle/misfiring issue.

I'm almost positivie the rough idle is just minor misfire events at this point.

I didn't have an extended warranty till this week. I went an bought one. It's a 3rd party through Carchex. I don't want to worry about owning this car 2-3 more years.

And when I had the 5 replaced, the dealer said only 3 were bad, but I might as well replace the other 2 because they damn well knew they were going to fail...

The warranty extension was only on the fuel system, and was free of charge as a result of the pump failures. I'll double check, but I'm 99% sure my letter said the entire fuel system was covered, not just the pump.

I have that letter too... Probably lost it. I am pretty sure only the pump was covered. When my LPFP failed at 52k miles, the dealer fixed at no charge saying it was out of warranty, but realized they fuel system in there cars are a mess.

Add me to the list.

Cleaned the valves last week and ever since have noticed the car acting funny. Rough on start up. When I blip the throttle, as the RPMs come back down they often dip as low as 100-200 RPM and the car feels like it's about to stall.

No codes. No lights. Plugs have 10k miles on them.

I reset all adaptations with the BT tool and it didn't seem to help.

Add me too the list. Rough idle at cold start. Car is still under warranty but don't feel like taking all my mods off. Weirdly it stopped when I put the meth on. It's back now though. I'm gonna take it out and beat on it this weekend really get some meth flowing. Changed plugs and 1 coil. Gonna change the other 5 just for the hell of it. HPFP and 3 injectors changed under warranty. If it gets worse I might take it in.

It takes a little time, but it will eventually throw a code. Mine took about 10 days of driving till it did.

Add me to the list...

I actually made this video over a year ago. At the time, my car was running on the original HPFP and injectors but it was on its 2nd set of plugs.

My car is an automatic. When the transmission is in gear, the idle stays low. If I put it in Park (where there's less load on it), then what you see in the video will probably occur. Note: the engine needs to be warmed up for this to happen. I currently have 64K miles.

Also, since I took this video, my car has developed a problem where it will stumble on a cold start after firing up but then immediately run smoothly. This started happening about ~5K miles after the HPFP was replaced under the recall. Note: My car has a 12/06 build date and wasn't eligible for the injector recall. All injectors are original.

For the most part, the car still runs fine, although it doesn't seem to rev quite as smoothly. It's hard to describe but there's a slight vibration when at lower RPM and high engine load. I've got a JB4 on it but most of the time I run it in bypass mode; I'm a little nervous cranking the boost up with these weird symptoms going on; I don't want to risk one of the cylinders leaning out.

It sucks that there doesn't seem to be any one smoking gun that could cause all this stuff... Gunked up intake valves? Injectors? HPFP? $$$$$$$$$$$ cha-ching... good thing my neighbor is an independent BMW mechanic
