I need this done pronto. I am in for "group buy." For the right price, I will drive just about any where.

Let me know when you have everything setup. Your shop is here in Houston, right?

I'm down, I live in Grapevine so that would be extra convenient. Since we are still in the early phases of throwing this together, is it safe to say it won't be until May at least?

I pm'd the OP to start a list for the Dallas Group and Houston group. I also mentioned to include instructions on what we're doing and to maybe revise the thread title to help describe the thread a little more (ie. 'intake valve cleaning - dfw/houston group buy'.

Since we're talking about cleaning up the valves, what's the best way to prevent it after we get this done? Catch can?

I did a walnut blasting on my car about 8 months ago in my home garage and while messy, I wouldn't say it's too hard if you've got the right tools. In the future I'd use a drop cloth and a fabbed plate to go over the intake port I'm cleaning to keep things cleaner. I'd probably be down for helping some of the locals out if I hadn't just bought a house. Maybe if people miss thread killer's trek to D-town I'll be able to clean some valves in a couple months.

As for preventing buildup in the future, There's really no way to do it 100%. Catch cans help some, but there's a debate afaik as to whether or not they place undue stress on the PCV system. Moreover even the best designed catch can will only catch blow by when the car is in boost. Otherwise the vapors are redirected through the internal PCV system's separators and then right back down into the intake ports, bypassing any catch can you'd have installed. I'd say regular (every 40-50k ) valve cleanings are probably the best solution at this point. Sucks, but that's how it goes.

Exactly... catch-cans might reduce it by a marginal amount, but due to the n54 design, there is unfortunately no solution, just maintenance.

ok- talked to my buddy in grapevine who has a shop.

he is fine with letting me do this there.

I need my M3 tuned in dallas, so i will be spending a day or two up there. this works extra convenient for me as well.

so my plans are:
tow my M3 up there, and drop it off at the tuner.
go to the shop in grapevine and start cleaning.
i have some loose ends to tie up on my M3, and next week would be the EARLIEST i could do it, but may not look like ill be able to go to dallas and get you guys squared away until maybe the first or second week in april?

you tell me

did you guys start making a roll call on who is going to be up in dallas? i need to get you scheduled accordingly.

i would LOVE to have one more houston car tomorrow if you are available for a morning drop-off.
I Nafoo's 335 today was "test and tune" for my tools.
I would like to knock one out to judge how long its going to take, now that I know what i have to do, and how long i have work on each cylinder port.

If your intake valves are like Nafoo's..... get this done!

before and after pics:
these were with my phone- my wife took my good camera for her Mary Kay event today

My car only had 52.7k miles and it was this dirty.

Car's a lot smoother. Going to pull some logs tonight. Will update with Rob@Cobb's thoughts.

I'm going to try to get a dyno done Saturday and I'll post those too.

Whats the procedure on this? Did you have it done at your local shop or u did it yourself? I just used a bottle of techron cleaner but I wonder if this is enough... I have 87k miles. Thanks
