Importing MS-8 from USA to UK

i want to buy a ms-8 but here in the uk it is £600 From www.sonicelectronix.com it is $529 plus $125 shipping.*

Has anyone had any experience importing amplifiers/dsp from usa to uk? I just want to know the chances of taxes. i know that customs duty is liable (based on the commodity code) and import vat which is 20%. *

so my question is, would my package definately get stopped and taxed or could it go through without any duty/tax?

99.9% get hit for duty, you also forgot to add a handling fee slapped on by Royal Mail for the privilage of collecting the duty. Keep an eye out for ones popping up from within the EU, that's were I ordered mine from, brand new, favourable exchange rates, may stand a better chance on warranties

Quick search on Amazon Germany http://www.amazon.de/JBL-8-Kanal-Car...2603527&sr=1-1

Coming out at
€599 (£500 approx) New
€533 ( £445 approx) Used

Before shipping of course but still a healthy saving.

I ordered mine on eBay, just got lucky, worth having a bit of research on google for local audio shops as well, might be able to email a couple for a better deal, whatever you do I'd use a credit card for a bit of extra protection. Should be ok with Germany though

Just a suggestion mind!

thats quite helpful thanks.

I will have a look on other amazon websites too and try and find it. I just hate translating everything!

£600 just seems like a lot. Id happily pay £500 for a new one with warranty.

so its $630 including shipping from amazon.de. it says shipping is 2-3 days. Just need to work out if i can pay by my debit card and what exchange rates/charges my bank will enforce. If its quite a bit then i might just buy it for £600

Yeah, you've got to weigh it up. The UK seller has priced it just about right to stop the US route being worth doing, I got lucky with mine. Got it new for just over £300 on eBay Germany. Brand new, wrapped, boxed, from an Audi main dealer. Don't know why they had it, maybe got sent it as a promo and didn't want it, who knows.

They do pop up now and again, good bit of kit but pricey

wow you really did get lucky!

After phoning my bank i've worked out that the ms-8 from amazon germany would cost me £530 including shipping and fees, which is still a good saving. I've searched the european ebay and amazon sites but all the ones are from USA.

I am going to wait until friday (payday ) and then just order it from amazon germany if i cant find it elsewhere. I might phone the seller here in the UK and ask for some discount as well.

your help is much appreciated

This is a shame euro guys. I wish you could get it for US prices. Maybe one could be shipped as a warranty replacement?!?! :-D?

I would prefer buying it from US. Don't try to evade tax it will be quite painful, not worth it. I am in exactly same situation as you. Here is my plan:

MS-8 ebay prices are like $400-$450, considering higher end it is £280, now add shipping to it which is another $100 which is like £65 total £345. There won't be any duty on it so simply it will be VAT 20% = £70. Add courier handling fee £10. Total = £280+£65+£70+10=£425.

Warranty is the only issue here but you can't get best of both world.

Different beast. If you have measurement tools and understand how to use them, it might be an alternative.
