New brake pads and rotors?

Hey everybody,

I just bought a 2006 325i a couple months ago and I need to replace the brake pads pretty soon. I really have no idea any good brands and I was hoping that some of you could recommend some that could be ordered in Canada? Hopfully something that I can get bang for my buck (if that makes sense)... I heard the Textar ones aren't too bad. If you could also post some popular websites where I can order them that would be appreciated. Also what are your opinions on replacing rotors? Some say that I should replace them with my pads and others say I should check the width left... any thoughts? Thanks for the help I really appreciate it!

Bavauto.com "Cool Carbon" are the best pads they have. Also it depends on how many miles your car has and whether this would be a second brake pad change. If its the 2nd time the pads were changed then now you definitely need new rotors.

Bavauto has some kits with all you need. I just install one of theirs and it cost $500ish. My only problem though is we cannot get the warning on my Nav screen to turn off.

The bavauto kit for your car is $517 USD which includes rotors, pads, sensors, anti-squel compound, and bolts. Not sure about shipping to Canada, but I'm sure they can.

If you are replacing rotors, you HAVE to replace pads. If you are just replacing pads, you do not need to replace rotors. Depending on how it is all worn down, if you feel rotors will need to be replaced in the near future, might as well knock it all out at once. If you do it yourself, you'll save time... if you are taking it somewhere, you'll save money.

I was considering Akebono Euro pads ($53 rear / $72 front for 328i). Anyone know how they compare to the Bavauto.com stuff?

Turner Motorsport sells a brake job kit for a fair price. Includes everything for both axles. For my 328xi, the kit costs $487 so for yours it will be slightly cheaper, and it's all OEM.

Great price for rotors and pads for both axles but I definitely want to get away from OEM black brake dust.

Also sensors and brake fluid.

I hate the brake dust! You can order from Turner and get Axxis Metal Master brake pads instead of OEM, and it's cheaper.

Since this is a topic about brake rotors, I have a question. I want a cross-drilled rotors but a guy at a brake shop told me that once the surface gets uneven, it cannot be refaced anymore. Is this true?

Do you really need slotted rotors?

EDIT: Let me rephrase my question, which race track do you go to?

The surface in slotted brake rotors doesn't get uneven. With that said you can only use one set of brake pads on them. So if you really want them get full ceramic pads that last longer. And pads with more meat on them. That's what I did at least....

As of Friday last week Tischer (getBMWparts.com) had the front brake kit (rotors, pads, sensor, grease) at $350 and the rear kit for a bit less.

You won't be disappointed with Cool Carbon pads;

we run them on our own cars are very pleased;

we sell other brands as well, but CC pads are always our first
recommendation.

Cool Carbon sale ends this week.

BMW still available; Stoptech applications are now on backorder

Check with your local Stoptech dealer on Stoptech Street Performance pads and Power Slot rotors as well.
