Custom box quotes

I was just quoted from probably the most respectable company in the area $750 for a custom box and cutting out the "Ski bag hole" and making it so they're is 0 rattle.

Is that fair?

What do prices usually go for.

More details would be great. Def. sounds high though for an MDF enclosure.

They say it's a two day job. The subs will be rear mounted directly behind the rear seats facing the interior of the car . Plexiglass on the trunk side and they will be removing the ski whole compartment. They said it will take up from the top to the bottom of the trunk there will beup or down from the subs like my box

I got quoted $400 for an MDF enclosure. $500 for a corner loaded fiberglass enclosure. Both from reputable shops in the area.

For the Amount of work they are doing, sounds about right. Maybe you can drop it $50.

I think that is too much. Look into the corner loaded sub that musicar sells.

Look how much of your trunk you will loose!!!! On that alone, i would do something else. I also agree, the corner enclosure setup is over priced but it looks good and sounds good too. So, id say sell the subs you got and purchase one of the corner kit. Id buy it used tho.

My subsetup uses 2 Arc Audio 15's and takes up 9" of trunk space. I still have a pretty good size trunk. Those setups you lose your whole trunk.

Another option is sell your subs and instead of paying for an install, buy the JL audio stealth box.

You get what you pay for. I think they are figuring $200 for materials and a solid day of labor from 1 installer. If it looks like the good looking one, it is worth it. Want it to look like shit and save a couple hundred bucks, well it is your car. What is your goal?

My goals is to keep SQ (average or above average) and STOP the rattling of the trunk.

The Arcs are not thin. They are average size. The reason my setup uses such little trunk space is because my setup is infinite baffle.

Garage List
2007 e92  [3.50]

I did this in 2 days (I was being lazy) could have done it in a few hours. And it coust me:
$25 - 1/2" MDF
$8 -screws
$56 - vinyl and carpet
$9 - 3M glue
--------------------------
total - $98

Now keep in mind I'm not trying to shatter windows do SQ or anything like that. And I'm using MAYBE 1/4 of my trunk. I understand they are using plexi (which is prob the most expensive part which is MAYBE $100 depending on the size) And of course the thicker MDF will be MAYBE $2-$3 more. I could never justify MYSELF paying that much for an enclosure. Even if its fiberglassed and painted. Most wooden enclosures usual can take a few hours to build if all the equipment is present. Measuring and calculating takes the most time. Which ever route you go you are going to enjoy it. Is the $750 including the subs also?

No, no sub's, just the box, wiring and installation and removing the Ski hole.

A lot of people have no carpentry skills. They could never do what you did so cost is irrelevant.

You should remake the trimplate one more time so you eliminate the gaps around the edges. That makes the difference between a good installer and a great one.
