The intercooler is not a good control.

This is because depending on the amount of heat soak it has incurred throughout the day, ambient temps ETC it will still vary.

A much more simple control is simply IAT temps at the pre turbo inlet.
If you follow identical warm up procedures, with similar weather conditions, then the data is just as useful. I sincerely doubt anyone is going to install a thermister pre turbo.

LOL! I agree controlled testing is absolutely the best. It is just hard to do for most.

Track day Today

Today I will be heading out to the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) to see if there is any improvements in times with the new intake. I have put over 400 miles on the car giving the DME ample time to adapt to the new mod.

So adaptation is not going to be an issue here. First day on the intake install was consistant in 12.0 ET, so after the DME has adapted I should see 11s if there is any performance improvements.

Regardles of the outcome, another dyno test with the aFe intake will be done this Friday with equal or higher temps and humidity. By the looks of it its going to be hotter and more humid.

The good news to those of us interested, is that aFe has seen this review and the feedback from the community and they will start planning a newer version of my custom sealed intake. It will literally be sealed and it will be one piece. (Confirmed)

For those of you who already got the stand alone aFe Stage 2 SI airbox they will address the concerns of the current version of not being truely sealed, "hopefully", by releasing a gasket kit/seals for the enthusiast running higher boost. (Possibility)

Logging

I do not have on hand any device to capture logs, muchless now how to read them. I will be aiming to getting a DashDaq that will provide all the logging demands needed BUT I have to run it by RENNtech first to see what they will allow from those logs to be seen.

This part will come at a later date though after I get a DashDaq. For now I will only have a dyno, and track times to start with.

Have a great time out at the track! Not sure how much valuable data lap times will give, considering times could vary a lot once you enter traffic or take a turn wrong Datalogging would be valuable though, is your tune still in Beta that they won't let you log? Or is PBIR a drag strip? I still think DCI's are your best bet there, air volume is key since you never get a chance to heat soak.

Unless you are doing 60-130 runs i think qtr mile numbers are not a good comparison - as others have stated, too many variables.

Hes gonna be running the qtr mile, and i dont believe his tune has a provision for logging.

Have fun at PBIR today Dimitri. I was going to go today, but I am just going to chill on my day off. Hope you crack 11's today.

Regardless of all that, why is renntech so hell bent on not showing anything?

Engines and tuning is pretty simple. Air spark fuel. They aren't hiding anything and everyone knows how much power these cars can/already made.

Get a bav tool if you want to see logs.

Could not hook today like I did last week. Big cars just distroyed the track with oil spills back to back all night. Will post before and after time slips later to see if there is something useful in them to consider before the dyno run on Friday. Here is a video to enjoy from an unusual view.

Oh check out the Tortoise with a rocket Damn truck can move

Part 3

Overall, definitely better than stock intake, power comes on earlier than before. All I can do now is wait for aFe to release their new version based off of my concept of what this intake is suppose to be for those of us that are tuned. The dyno graph whp, wtq, and afr lines above the others is with the aFe intake

question, was your testing done AFE Vs completely stock air box(no aftermarket drop-in filter)? Sorry if you already posted this info I read thru it but didn't see it. Thanks for doing this testing.

If the box inlet is the same size as stock i don't see much difference unless the second inlet is used. Did you only do 2 runs?

Great review though!

I did three baselines before and after the aFe intake, and used the best runs for comparison.

I will begin on the secondary inlet on the box later as soon as find some good heat resistant material. Utilizing that inlet port should generate better numbers

Your dyno didn't turn out the way I thought it would. I figured more power up in the rpms rather than lower. Good job documenting.

Yes it was posted in video.

Dispite the temp disadvantages the aFe still pulled ahead by 9 whp and 12 wtq increase while bringing the power much more earlier in the power band over the stock w/ the K&N filter
