Should I mod my '08 e90 335i and sit tight for a '15 f30 M or get into a e90 M3?

Fellas,

My car has 56,xxx on the clock and has never been modded. I dropped another $3k late last year for the extended platinum warranty to cover me through 5/15. I'm itching for more power. Should I go ahead and drop a little more cash on mufflers and a Cobb tune and hold tight for the 2015 f30 M? Should I jump to an e90 m3? I like the idea of holding out until 2015, I have a 14 month old and most likely be adding another to the family next year. the increase in body size (f30) is very close to an e39 m5, which I have also considered getting into.

Thoughts?

Well I would pass on the E39 M5...I came from one and I sincerely loved it. The e39 is my favorite BMW body. With that being said, the maintenance and mod cost on them is far greater than what makes the performance justifiable (for me anyway)

Cars are just getting so fast these days, the e39 M is long in the tooth.

As far as modding the 335i, that's why I bought mine. With relatively cheap mods (and easy as bolt ons) you get a totally different beast.

I'd say start with a tune (you can research which one you want, as to avoid the wars) I would hold out on the mufflers...they don't do much for performance

On my M5 it was the same with mufflers...high dollar, no performance gains. I just put a pair of magnaflows on and had the cats cut out...great sound and it was cheap.

All and all...its a great problem to be faced with

+1 to that. You can see which tune I decided on and just that will turn the car into beast compared to stock. Hands down a tune should be the first thing you do. It doesn't need anything else if all you want is some more power and torque.

Thanks for the guidance stilov. The e39 is also my favorite body style. I have been lurking on the m5board for some time now. I was very close to buying a low mileage well maintained e39 M5 from a elderly gentleman based on me 1st selling my 335i. I actually had a buyer all lined up for my car and he bailed on me the night before of the sale. Something about the e39 M, i will have one in my gararge someday. It just wasn't meant to happen now... Again thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Oh, what all have you done to your 335i?

I sold my white one about 2 years ago, a guy flew in from NY to buy it...I was on the m5board too. I did the calendars for a couple years. Loved the car, and all in all it was reliable.

On the M, I had ram air intake, tune, no cats, magnaflows, short shifter, and I put in the 3.62 ring and pinion from an e46 M instead of the 3.15 stock.

On the 335i, I have DCI, tune, 3in catless dp's, removed 2ndary cats, meth, and n2o.

Here was my M...I do miss her a bit. You'd never know it racked up 130k miles!
