Did a quick google search and some tyre places suggesting that you invalidate your insurance if you replace run flats with standard tyres.

Is this true? Would this count as a mod that would have to be declared to an insurance company?

I was told when i had them swapped to speak to my insurance company, when i did they didnt really care. I believe their response was simply "We'll make a note of it..."

I have just had a puncture on my Touran on the way home from London. It does not have a spare just a can of gunk and an inflator. Needless to say the puncture repair was a complete failure and we had to be rescued and taken to the nearest Kwik Fit.

I will definitely not be replacing the run flats on my e92 after that experience.

I told my insurance come renewal time last month and they just basically said "I will make a note" and doesnt affect the premium

As said above as long as you meet/exceed the speed/load rating on the tyres (always ensure they are XL) then you will be fine

There is no law requirement to carry a spare, after all, none of the M cars come with run flats or a spare, you just get the "BMW mobility kit" in the boot which is just BMW rebadged tyre gunk and a pump.

Also for the poster saying he wouldn't change his run flats due to being worried about getting stuck, I have also been stranded on the motorway and funnily enough I was on run flats at the time. The BMW assist guy who came out to recover me also told me that by far the largest number of calls he gets is to recover people whose run flat tyres didn't perform miracles as expected so I would not rely on run flats getting you out a jam either.

As of this Friday I will be the proud owner of a 320d msport. The rear tyres are shortly due for replacement. I have been quoted 300 pounds per rft, and will therefore go non rft.

Can anyone recommend a good mid-price tyre for me? Thanks

i'm running continental contact sport 3's on mine, 18".

200 for each of the back ( 255/35/18) and 150 for the fronts ( 225/40/18).

Depends on pricing and availability on your side of the world

In the UK, the standard answer to that question is Falken FK452, Kumho KU39 or Vredstein Ultrac Sessenta. All priced well below the 'premium' brand tyres, and perform almost as well.
