The E9x broke the mold, it got a V8 and picked up a lot of weight -- Seems to be another complaint among purists, that this gen's M3 is too civilized and needs to be put on a diet. The F30 3-series has already shown that its lighter than the outgoing E90, so I'm sure the F80 M will be substantially lighter too.

And I'm sure at highway speeds is when the 335 can showcase its power advantage.

yeah the f80 will be much lighter, I guess...I read that they're incorporating all these CF-impregnated plastics into the body etc. 450 HP on lighter-than-E9x platform? well that's alright with me!!!

s65 was 15lbs lighter and shorter than the s54.

My original belief is that the N54 was still used in the 335is/1M/Z4 35is, so if this is the truth then BMW is mislabling the engine as an N55 on their website because TwinPower is specific to the Twin-Scroll Turbo of the N55 motor.

As for the straight cylinder configuration, its just tradition. And just posted the motor weights, which is pointless since you have to put a motor into a chassis eventually. The E46 M3 coupe weighed 3,415 lbs, while the E92 3,704 lbs -- so much for the 15 lbs lighter.

The relationship is exactly the same as Ford selling the GT500. Just like how you don't see every Shelby model being sold in a Ford dealer, you don't see every Alpina model being sold in BMW dealers (B3 BiTurbo / B5 BiTurbo). The European tuners (Alpina, Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Hartge, etc.) are much more respected & much larger when you compare them to anything here in the states, whether it be Cobb, Vishnu or Burger Tuning. Dinan is essentially North America's version of Alpina (it's actually specific to the North American BMW market), you can walk into specific BMW dealers (found here: http://www.dinancars.com/dealers/) and buy a Dinan-tuned BMW & have it serviced by that same dealer. The minute you buy a Alpina/Dinan BMW, it no longer is under BMW's warranty but instead the independent aftermarket company's.
