iDrive: Repeatedly attemps to start but goes black...

My build (as in my sig)

The iDrive constantly attempts to start then goes black... attempt to start then goesg black (repeat). THis can last 2 hours of driving or 2 minutes of driving....

Anyone have idea? Battery? iDrive unit?

Press and hold both eject buttons to restart it.
But sounds like the unit itself is fubar.

Pretty common for the CCC.
Try the software update, but often it cannot be fixed and the only solution is to replace the unit

pressing both eject buttons does not reset..

I had to add more coolant (engine) as it was getting low... could have heated unit?

anyone else have thoughts?

..trying to avoid dealer on this.. lol

sea, I ultimately, after looking via my BT tool... swapping out my battery personally, and considering a retrofit of CID.... decided to have the dealer install a new CCC, it was costly but I decided to keep the car stock and maintain it.

In my case I think I was one of cars with a faulty DVD reading head (my guess) unfortunately I was off warranty so it was out of my pocket

Let me know what happens, hope your solution is quick and painless

... yesterday... while idling in NYC , my CCC froze and rebooted TWICE... I'm staying optimistic... but that was scary...

Same thing started happening to mine yesterday. Today it's just completely black. I was thinking that maybe it was a power supply issue (maybe a loose connection or short) as it would "pop" and then turn off and then try to reboot and I could get it to turn on and off by wiggling some of the wires that run back to it. I'm set to go to the dealer on Tuesday, but this thread is not making me optimistic.

And the diagnosis is:

CCC unit internally shorted out. They have to replace and re-code. Total is somewhere in the $1,400 range. Not ideal, but I should have the car back tomorrow, so hopefully it will all work.

...essentially what happened to mine, sorry to hear. Doing it at the dealer you will have a warranty on the repair which is great

Yeah; I figure a warranty doesn't hurt. I was going to go to a local indy shop, but they seemed unsure about working on idrive, so I bit the bullet and went to the dealer. My SA is a good guy, though, so he always makes the experience as pleasant as dropping a bunch of money can be.
