is it the wastegate, possibly?

Almost every Bimmer has rattles somewhere, especially those with a sporty suspension, wherein interior pieces are prone to harsher effects in daily driving that ultimately result in rattles galore. Inspect the pieces and isolate the source. Many rattles can be cured by simply pressing on the plastic pieces surrounding them. Try out and see what you can do.

Oh Christ Jay I hope not!
I only have 2000 miles on it...
The rattle under certain acceleration is more like an angry hornet or horsefly in my car, does that change things?
Should I check it out anyhow? New to these turbo bimmers

that sounds like a loose nut, or bolt somewhere, rattling against the plastic.

Yep, that's far more likely I hope. It happened right after I decided to "upgrade" to the BMW PE....(which I have since returned to stock and sold).
Should have left it alone

BMW uses, either, loc-tite, or paint to keep all their nuts and bolts in place. This is also how they tell if someone has been playing in the car. Granted, the dealers don't reapply this stuff to the offending nut, but they have a tendency to come loose if you're not careful to tighten JUST RIGHT. too tight, and the plastic stretches, causing the nut to come loose; too loose and it just keeps coming off.

YES!! I have a rattle exactly there too. Dealer has tried to fix it twice with no results. They say it's a broken clip but the rattle keeps coming back.

I've learned to live with it but next time I go to the dealer I'll have them take another look.
