I'd say CPO. Added peace of mind is great (even on an NA vehicle) and repairs are not cheap unless you DIY. Just had my thermostat replaced under CPO which was nice. Car is barely at 55k miles.

Based on my search a few years ago, I'd estimate that less than 5% of the used E90 335's out there (in the northeast) have 6MT, ZSP and RWD (no XDrive). Even fewer of these cars have no iDrive, which I didn't want either. You definitely have to be willing to travel. I only found four E90s in the entire northeast that met my criteria in over three months of searching (two 335is, one 330i and one 328i). I finally bought my 335i at a dealership nearly 200 miles away in Philadelphia, PA. I grew to really like the Jet Black paint with Terra interior too, even though it wasn't my first choice in color combinations...

I have a 2007 MT e92. i remember test driving the car, i was not impressed until i drove the MT. i really don't think AT's and e9x's go good together, but then again I've always been on a MT.... My Car came with CPO because its the e92 I've had the seatbelt assist changed about 3 times, lifters and cylinder head replaced (for the ticking noise that is common on the N52). and just recently my AC went and caused some belt snap they replaced that. This was over $10,000 in work, most of the cost can be attributed to the cylinder head.
the nice thing about the warranty is that some dealerships give you loaner cars while your car is in for service...but of course there are always those situations where you thought something was covered isn't. not only do you get a huge bill for the repair, they charge you diagnostic fees (happening to my friend the cpo says a/c and components are covered but now that his a/c doesn't work they say it's wear and tear). some dealers act like they are doing you a favour by honouring the warranty. with that being said you may be better off just putting money aside for car repairs...imagine paying 5K for a warranty and then being told your problem isn't covered because of arbitrary interpretations.

However if your buying from a dealership and they are not selling CPO on a car then you should do your best to find out why

In short either way its a dice roll.
