19" Vossden CV1 fitment

Hopefully someone on this site can educate me on wheel "fitment" issues that I have.

I have a 2007 335i Cabriolet with the sports package. I recently purchase a set of Vossen CV1. 19 x 8.5 ET 32 front and 19 x 10 ET 38 in the rear. According to my wheel shop, VOSSEN recommended that I use 225 35/19 up front and 275 30/19 rear. The fitment looks awesome except that I get slight rubbing, when I go over bumps, on the side wall about a quarter of an inch from the top of the tire (with only me in the car). Once the car is loaded and the roof is down the rubbing is a lot more pronounced and happens more frequently. The wheel shop suggested that I role the fender but my BMW rep told me that rolling is a bad idea. The tire shop suggested that I cantor the wheels in..... not sure that I want to do that either, they also told me that 265 19/30 won't take care of the problem. Has anyone had any experiences with a similar problem and if so, what was your antidote to the problem.

According to VOSSEN they have done hundreds of these setups and have never had a problem.

I would appreciate any ideas you guys have!

Rubbing in the front or back or both? All the specs are within reason. I would say maybe a little aggressive in the front but nothing crazy (+35 front is a little more common).

It is surprising based on the fact you only have the sport package and not slammed lower.

Also what tires you have? Some, such as Nitto, are a little wider than say a Toyo. You may be able to solve it with a 265/30 and a tire with a more tapered sidewall, but that is only going to shave a few mm's off.

The rubbing is on the rear tires, both sides. I'm currently running Kumho Ecsta SPT. I was told that I would have to stretch the 265 to make them fit which won't solve my problem. The tire seems to be rubbing on the inner linear and fender of the wheel well.

I have the same issue but with stance sc 5 which is similar to vossen. My set up is 8.5 35 front and 9.5 35 in the rear with the same tires size and I rub over bumps and if I have a full load I rub when I am turning.

I have also noticed that they rub at highway speeds on an on/ off ramp going into a curve..... I take it that this is not normal? Can anyone see any potential issues with leaving it as is (rubbing)?

annoyance and a little faster tire wear. Otherwise you shouldn't have to many issues.

If you are located near a machine shop, you could also take a mm or 2 off the backspacing. This would bring the tires into the center of the car and COULD solve the problem. Of course, I can't see your car or see what is causing the issue. So take the advice of a professional near you.

265 on 10" is not stretched and would most likely fix your rubbing. Your best option is a proper fender roll and is perfectly safe when done right.

get a set of 265's for the rear with a tire that has rounded off shoulders like nitto invos. with a +38 offset and 10" rear with that 265, you should be fine with no rubbing.

also, on a side note, why dont you run 235s up front? you wont have any rubbing at all and u get more tire and itll even help a lil bit neutralize the handling too.

After looking at the front setup, I wished I would have went with 235s up front cause it would have looked cosmetically better. The reason I went with 225 up front is because that is what I was told Vossen recommended. I realize now I should have went on this site to get your opinions because it makes much more sense. As it stands today, Vossen has asked my tire shop to put my ride up on a hoist to take a closer look to see if my ride was lowered and/ or if the suspension is still stock. They are baffled on why there is rubbing and want to ensure that everything is on the up and up. I asked if 265s would fix the problem and my tire shop said no because of where the tire is rubbing. I've added a few pics.... If you look where the sidewall meets the tread, you cam see that it has a glazed looked, that is where it is rubbing...... I'm starting to think that maybe I got a rim with the wrong offsets.

You should have goten 235/35 and 265/30, those Kumho tires are pretty fat.

I can't see where the tire is rubbing on the fender but I'm guessing that it might be on the liner. What tires would you recommend I go with remmib?

Ok...like everyone mentioned it would have been better if it you went with a 235/265 set up. With those offsets you shouldn't rub, even with the larger tire size. Vossen recommended sizes??? Did you get that directly from Vossen or from your tire shop? B/c when I was working with Vossen they ALWAYS suggested the right tire sizes. When I told them what size i was going to put on the tires they continue to ask me if I was sure b/c I SHOULD run bigger. One thing you could do is weigh the rear of the car down...have a few people sit in it to lower it to see exactly where its rubbings.

I don't see why a roll and a smaller tire wouldn't fix the problem.

Actually it was the tire shop who told me that Vossen recommend these sizes. Either way I think I am going to go for the 235s up front and keep the 225 for a spare once this is sorted out. As for the rubbing, I am going to try ACEE recommendations and post pics.

Yes let us know....you have about +13mm of clearance from the fender with the current set up (rim (not including tire) to fender)

on another note...do you have any other pics of your car with the 19s? like side pics

Is that the size and offset that's on the inside of the wheel? No way you should be rubbing. Maybe your alignments off. Regardless, I would just add some negative camber no use rolling your fenders with those offsets unless you wanted to add spacers.
