PPK Oil Cooler Question
I have the PPK1, as my car already had the oil cooler.
Does the new software keep the oil cooler open 100% of the time? I noticed as it has gotten warmer this year, and when I push my car harder than normal it stays about 10-20F cooler than it used to. Or is it just a thermostat that opens up like the radiator?

No. It is controlled by a thermostat in the oil filter housing. It's just the extra cooling capacity on the water side keeping things a little cooler.

There is no extra oil cooler for the PPK, only an extra coolant radiator. The thermostat for the oil cooler runs at 110C/230F, and you will see temps from 230-250 on the gauge because the oil temp comes from the pan temp, which is hotter than the oil going back into the motor once the oil cooler thermostat is open.

The ECU has no control over the oil temp regulation, it's all thermostat controlled like your water temps. The larger radiator will help to keep your average temps lower automatically, without any changes to the stock thermostat.

The BMW Performance Power Kit Stage 2 does not contain an oil cooler. It does contain a supplemental water cooler and a bigger fan.
However the PPK Stage 1 may have revised water pump mapping (like Dinan has). That is, if BMW concluded that the water pump can safely be stressed more than the stock software does.
