I'm going to retrofit the combox myself by ordering all the parts I need directly from tischer and other oem vendors.

You can actually get email responses from them rather quickly. I have the retrofit instructions from them, I can send them to you if you pm me your email address. You'll need coding too, which they did remotely for me via Skype once it's installed. Unless you can do that yourself of course. For me it was easier to have them do it.

The problem with that is the newer ISTA versions require FSC codes for 6FL activation, something I feel makes this retrofit too expensive given the quotes I've seen.

What needs to encode it?

Which control unit - write what you have? is it hard? You can do this myself?

I have BMW 535 2008 with CIC Navigation system.

Yesterday, by doing the remote coding, the bmwretrofit successfully finished the CIC upgrade for my X5 including the Combox media.

I have an 06 330i with idrive, it says DVD on the dash but when i tried to play DVD it says there was something in the component that couldn't read the audio/video, does your product work with my year/model? or could you possibly fix my problem?

E9x and E6x CIC headunits are not the same, thus you will not be able to directly swap these, however we may help with exchange in the future if product is purhcased from our company.

Your vehicle is equipped with the DVD based Nav system of the older model. That model is not capable for DVD Video playback. Newer CIC Nav systems which we offer are perfectly capable of DVD Video playback.

So what exactly do I need to do for any upgrade or ability to play movies while in motion, voice command, also I would like to have back up camera since I have the big screen navigation. If you are willing to spend money then go for CIC + COMBOX retrofit. It is ultimate car infotainment + bluetooth system.

If budget is tight then go for aftermarket AV unit like Dension, or BMW module for AV.
