New little toy Westfield

Right then guys for a while now i have been looking at getting a track day weapon. I wasn't looking at getting something expensive so i went down the rout of a kit car, the original plan was to buy a kit and assemble it as a project between myself and my brother. After a few months of searching around and doing some research we decided to go for a pre built one and here she is.

Shes a 1.8 westfield seiw, the engine is a 1.8 ford zetec lump and shes quick 160bhp at the mo which works out about 340bhp per tonn. in comparison to my 335d shes quicker to 100 but past that the 335d comes into its own. I cant believe how incredible the handling is around the bends and will be booking the first track day around castle comb on monday. shes a beaut

Nice toy.

You are a bit optimistic on the power to weight ratio though.

Remember the ultra lightweight cars use lots of weight saving materials to get the weight down.

Your car is likely to be about 650kg which will give you 246 bhp per ton.

The Caterham R500 is over 500kg.

Most of the Westfield drivers that have weighed their car with Ford's 1800 or 2000 zetec get 620/650kg.

I can't see how your car can be so much lighter than theirs or a lightweight carbonfibre stripped out machine.

Maybe it being a kit car saved some weight? As in something was left off or lighter parts used. Not sure what you could leave off though.

Nice car btw. I'd definitely like something like that. Sounds like you'll have some fun with it.

Why are you selling the d btw?

It is a nice toy but read up on the cars and you will see the weight does not add up.

Seen quite a few race ones nowhere near that weight either.

Caterham don't make them that light, Westfield don't make them that light and on the expensive ones they are using special lightweight materials.

Using a build up of Ford car parts (is it Ford Sierra based) you are adding to the weight, not taking it away.

LOL!! Funniest thing ive read all morning!!! Lets hope the engine is not made of lightweight cheese and sausage rolls!!!

Jokes aside it looks great fella and I'm sure, regardless of weight, you will have a blast on track!! I have to say, as much as i like these cars, they've never appealed to me as a track car but thats maybe because ive always wanted some further practical use of a track car as opposed to a fully focused track tool - albeit my R26.R was hardly practical in any other way than as a track tool!!!
NB: a quick note/tip - when you do your first track day, unless ALL the other cars on track are Caterhams/Westfields et al, then be VERY VERY careful when you come blatting up behind the usual normal cars to overtake etc because they rarely can SEE you!!! Because your car is so low they find it difficult to see you in their side mirrors - and ive seen so many incidents on track where a Westfield type car has shot down the inside to overtake (legally, not diving into the corner) and the other car has simply not looked properly and they collided. Ive had moments myself where ive luckily, at the last minute, just seen the top of the roof/roll bar at the bottom edge of my mirror and let them pass. Just a heads up.

Nice!

I miss mine....especially in this weather....

Unfortunately I'd have to agree with the doubters re. the weight....but don't worry about it...its only a number and you already know how quick and fun it is.

Enjoy!!

Very nice mate, and I bet she shifts. Don't forget to add the driver weight for the power/weight ratio on these cars.

How much do up weigh mate

Looks great, really pleased for you and I am sure you will enjoy this summer. If I looked for a 2nd car as a weekend toy it would be one of these of a Caterham. I don't care if its 500 or 700kg it will be fun whatever the weight.

p.s. if you are intending to do a lot of track work, be aware that the roll bar you currently have isn't the best....

I was down in Donington the other week doing a pre-race test day with my mate who has a Caterham R400 superlight. He pays for someone to look after it and just deliver it to any track he's driving/racing so practicality isn't an issue.

I don't know how yours compares as I'm not quite as anal as some of the others when it comes to power and weight. All I will say is it was an absolute hoot. If I lived near a decent track I'd have one.
