The main difference between the BlackVue and the GoPro are:

1. There's no automatic mode on the GoPro.

With the BlackVue you can select automatic mode which means you can essentially forget about the camera and it'll do it's job. The BlackVue has G sensors in it so once you start moving it'll start to record. As part of the automatic mode you can also use park mode which essentially senses movement in front of the car while it's park, turns itself on and records it.

2. The GoPro doesn't loop records

I think the GoPro records in about 30 min segments and once the memory is full it stops recording. The BlackVue records on a loop 1, 2, 5 minutes etc... The software that comes with the camera plays these seamlessly. Once the memory card is full it'll automatically start to delete oldest files unless something untoward was noticed in the file (i.e. higher than normal g force such as an accident).

In terms of quality I think the GoPro and BlackVue are quite similar.

For paintballing a GoPro is going to win hands down but as a dash cam for track days and normal use the BlackVue wins IMO.

The GoPro is bulkier than the BlackVue and isn't going to look great on you dash. Having seen the BlackVue installed it's almost invisible, just kind of blends in.

Interesting, so ultimately the blackvue sounds like an ultimate in car black box. whereas the go pro more versatile in its various guises.

When is the cut off date for the GB?

Yes the GoPro is more flexible if you intend using it out of the car.

Probably about another week.

I'm interested, please put me down.

I got busted for a TS20 offence which I didn't commit (driving over double white lines) by an overzealous bike cop who was so far away he couldn't possibly of seen. If I'd had a recording I could have disputed it.

Certainly very useful for insurance claims whilst driving when liability is disputed. It would be useful to capture these fraudsters who reverse into you whilst you are stationary then claim you'd rear ended them. Lots of different scenarios where it is useful.

No, you mount it facing the direction you want to record

Sorry mate but after spending more time researching this and comparing other systems and camera equipment I feel that it doesn't have the AV quality I'm after so will be going down the dedicated Action Cam route

For what it is it's a very good system with some nice features and if security is your main concern then this would be an excellent tool. Unfortunately I cannot justify buying 2 systems to meet all my needs so I have to back out of this GB.
