Window tinting on the e92

Anyone had this done?

I have picked up a great car but the only thing it is missing is tints. BMW say they only do the glass, which would obviously cost a fortune, so was wondering if anyone had been in the same boat and had their tints done AFTER purchasing the car?

I have rung one place up and they reckon it is very hard to do on the e92 due to the thickness of the rear windscreen. I obviously don't want to have a great car with shit tints.

Any advice people? It is something I think needs doing as the car is black.

Thanks

Come on chaps I am struggling here.

All I keep coming across is horror stories about people taking their Coupe for tints and it all going wrong due to the thicker dot matrix area on the rear windscreen.

Has no one had it done / knows where to get it done to avoid this?

When I had mine done, the tinter heated the glass from the outside and I had no issues with the dot marix on either the rear or side glass.

Any tinter worth his salt will know how to get round it, if they say they cant, I wouldn't use them

I've had two cars retro tinted which looked good, but never as good as factory. You do get a bit of ghosting around the dot matrix. It wouldn't put me off though.

Have a word with Teddy @ SSDD (07920 575052), he can recommend a Guy called Nick who does it.

Nick did my fronts, but I can't find his contact details,he does the rear screens and apparently has no problems with the dot matrix.

He's based over Perrivale way.

Fronts only (35%)

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone have any recommendations then? I have rung a few people up but the ones that fail to mention the dot matrix seem a little dodgy as if they don't know what they are doing. Need to find someone based on experience and reputation. Would travel a bit if needs be.

I'd recommend these guys, Audi, BMW and Merc use them for after market work. The are perfectionists and have used the Reading branch several times - http://www.pentagonglasstech.com/

I've used their Hainault branch few years back on my e46 coupe. Trusted them as they had an unregistered e93 on site which they were tinting but they totally messed up my rear screen mainly the dot matrix area, come winter time I discovered some of my heated lines were dead aswell. They also didn't put my driver side door card on properly which I noticed a few months later. So I'd steer clear from their Hainault branch

Has anyone had a problem with the windows rolling down a bit when you open/close the door during the drying period for tints? Would this affect the drying and cause the tints to peel in any way?
