A note on exhaust drone....

Just thought I'd share a little tip that may seem obvious to some and not so obvious to others..

You can reduce exhaust drone in the cabin SIGNIFICANTLY by making sure the exhaust is hanging freely and not stressing the hangers in order to get fitment perfect.

I installed my Vanguard a few months ago and it had a little bit of drone at 2k or so and some very minor vibration at points along the revband (nothing to complain about, extremely minor). When I installed the exhaust, I remember having to monkey with the rectangular connecting brace to pull the tips left/right to get them centered and playing with the rubber hangers a bit.

The right way to do it (and it can be annoyingly time consuming), is to unbolt the exhaust and bend the exhaust hangers so that the tips line up naturally, and the brace between the mufflers just hast to be tightened down (not drawing the mufflers in any direction).

After modifying two of the right side muffler hangers to get the tip hanging naturally centered, I snugged everything down and I have zero vibration and the drone is probably cut down by 75%.

Those of you who paid to have someone install your muffler really don't have any way to find out *how* they aligned the tips (if they did), but incorrect installation can have a defining effect on perceived "drone."

Interesting explanation of how drone can be caused by exhaust fitting, and it makes sense too. Thanks for posting this.
