The "R" in front of the 70 probably means radar but you admitted to the LEO that you were doing 70-75 in a 55 so you are probably toast. This is an important lesson for you: DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE! There is a great lecture by a law professor out there on you tube as to why you should never talk to the police. Google it. It's very informative.

I live in NC and have had 2 speeding tickets. In NC you get a PFJ(Prayer for Judgement) which can be used once every 3 years. Pretty much a free pass and all you pay is court cost. Go to court on your court date, ask the DA prior to seeing the judge to lower the charge(got both mine reduced from 28 -> 15 and 25 ->15) Then when the judge sees you just ask for a PFJ. The one stipulation is you can get another moving violation again in the 3 years or both tickets will hit your insurance which will kill your driving record and rack up some nice points for you.

Other option is to lawyer up and hope they can get a improper equipment or get it dropped if the officer never shows or get it reduced to 9 over which is 0 points on your license.

I was just a sophomore in high school and only got pulled over once for suspicious activity and no seat belt.

You broke the law and got caught. Consider the cop lenient he could have made it worse for you. Just pay it and move on. You'll spend more money fighting it.

Yeah and I know that if you want to speed, you run the risk of getting caught. I was looking for help with reducing the hit on my insurance. In all honesty I don't see the cost of the ticket, $218, as a huge hit. It's the insurance that is going to hurt. Since I got my learners permit I've done my share of 5-10 over but now that I've got caught I'll slow it down for a while...

So for future reference (hopefully years from now LOL) when the officer asks how fast you were going just say you don't know?

That's pretty cute... Maybe since you were a little slower, potty training came at the end of high school. It's okay.

As I said before, I KNOW the officer was lenient and I'm thankfull for that. If it was a State Trooper I'm sure I would've been SOL. If I'd still have to pay court costs, I don't think I'll shoot for the PFJ. The court costs are over 6 times the fine...
Edit: The only time/money I'll spend fighting it is missing school to go to court, researching some on the internet, and $10 in gas to get there and back. I won't be getting a lawyer over 15 MPH and my first offense...

you need to hire a traffic lawyer, someone good that can get you on the "differed prosecution"

I got busted for 74 in a 35 when i was 16, and hired a traffic lawyer that got me on the differed prosecution which was 1 year probation i.e. 1 year with no moving violations and no points go on your license

do that, don't just go to court and pay the ticket bc points will go on your license and you will shit your pants when you see your insurs costs

Why would you not use a pfj...what else you going to use it for? You plan to be doing stupid shit a lot and need to go to court often?

first offense doesnt matter when you drive a bmw and are of highschool age. Do not let those points go on your record. that's all I'm going to say

Insurance was that bad? As it stands, if I just paid the ticket, it's 3 points on my license and 2 insurance points. Will look into a lawyer...

just sayin, you hire a lawyer and pay a one time retainer cost for him and he does the work for you, you miss no school, go on differed prosecution, and receive no points...

The only reason I don't want to use the PFJ is if in 3 years I get any other tickets, this one will resurface and I'll have to pay both tickets plus any other consequences. I more than likely won't get pulled again but you never know

. If I can get it knocked down I'd rather be on the safe side.

Yeah... Definitely something to look into. I still have a month and a half and my parents are looking into my options more than I am. They've had a good amount of experience in traffic court when they were younger, so I'm sure I will end up with a laywer.

It's the only way to go, honestly. It's going to be a bit expensive but at the cost of no points on your license and no jump in insurance, it's worth every cent.

I told you I got busted for 74 in a 35, and successfully completed my probationary period and never received any points
