Wheel and Tire protection $$$$
Hi yall.. I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum.. So, I looked over my contract with BMW and found that I paid $1,825 for the wheel and tire protection for 5 years. This is on my wife's CPO 2008 328xi, which only has 17" rims. Is this a normal price to pay? I never purchased the protection with my 335,. so I'm sort of in the dark on the price tag for this protection. However, I searched through some old threads and found people paying like $300-1000 for the same protection. Has the price went up since then? Is $1,825 too high for just the tire and wheel protection? If so, should I cancel? I called BMWNA and they couldn't answer any of my questions.
PS> I live in California.. roads are great. |

so apparently the amount I paid ($1,825) for the tire and wheel insurance included "free" maintenance for 9 months (until the CPO ends). At the time I bought the car I declined the free maintenance, but was quickly told by the dealer that he would throw in the maintenance for free. However, I called the dealer today to inquire why my Tire and wheel insurance was so expensive (it's normally $1,200 at that dealership) and the dealer said that the free maintenance was the reason why my tire and Wheel insurance was so expensive. Now.. I may not be the smartest cookie in the jar, but if I am getting something that is supposed to be free by paying an excessive amount ($625 extra) for an otherwise cheaper insurance option than it's not xxxing free!
Any suggestions on what I should do? |

After calling BMW, I was told to contact Safe Guard for inquiries.
I found out the number for Safe Guard, the supplier of BMW's tire and wheel protection plan, is wrong on the BMW website. The number should be 800-269-4559, NOT 866-... After reaching Safe Guard, I was told there is no record of my plan and that this could be because dealers don't send in their records for 4-6 weeks (I purchased my car 3 weeks ago). They have a cancellation application on their website as well: www.sgcancels.com

I paid $1600 for 3 years. 19" wheels and its the windshield, dent and scratch repair as well. The gold or premium level from Safeguard.. Whatever the highest package is, is what I got. Ive used it 5 times in one year.

i paid 1000 flat for the tire and wheel package on my 328 but i had the 335i rims on it. i had a mini cooper and the tire and wheel protection was also 1000 flat when you sell the car you can transfer the protection plan to the next owner and actually get some money back. when i sold my mini to get the 328 i got around 600 back and i and the mini for 2 years. BEST PART right when you are about to get below the tire tread marker put a nail in the tire and take it in and save major$$$$ thats what i do and i am on my second set of tires for my 328 on 18in runflats at around "$520" dealer installed tires. so imagine 6 tires at 500 each is $3000 i just saved 2000. in the end it will pay for itself

I spend $800 for my CPO. I went through 1 rim fix, 1 bubble, and 2 nails. all 3 tires were replaced. best investment living in new york. Wheel and tire insurance is very negotiable. 1800 is too much

After a very long and elaborate showcasing on delivery, by the Business Manager, of why I would obviously be a complete idiot if I say No - I was at least offered the opportunity to do so. Which I did. So far, so good, knock on wood.

I had the wheel and tire protection for my car and turned out to be the worst investment ever. I had a nail in 3 tires and they refused to change it for me. I, then, called bmwna and they told me that they'll fix it. After 3 long months, they finally approved me. By then though, my tread depth was far below the wear bar and they claimed it was self inflicted because my tires were going dead. I had a long argument with bmw and I finally won enough after stating that ill be more than glad to take them to quart. If I'm paying 1100 for some wheels and tires, god damnit they better cough it up. After having the tires on, I coincidentally got a nail in the last old tire (some how had 6 of them) and they wouldn't give me a new one. Needless to say, DON'T DO IT. Don't pay extra when you can get some new non rft for cheaper.

I did purchase the tire and wheel care protection. The brochure seems very clear on what they will and will not cover and what happens with a claim. I'm taking the car in tomorrow for my first claim so I'll report back my experience. $1200 for 5 years protection in the pot hole ridden midwest seems like a reasonable deal. Especially when spread out over 48 months.
Still shocked by luis's response above. How can you live with yourself buddy? |

Our wheel & tire policy was canceled after we made the first claim.
