BMW key

Hi guys, I used to have a 2009 328i and the key would work from far away, to open and close the doors. I've now a 2008 335i, but key works only about 20 feet from the car, can it be because the battery is low, can I change this? Or is it because they key's signal receiver on the 335 is placed somewhere else?
Thanks

335i is better so you have to be close to unlock it because if you unlocked from far away someone would steal it. but the 328i they know that people wont steal them so they dont need to install a signal inhibitor like they do in the 335i. jk. the battery charges when you drive the car so i dont think you need to replace it. i dont know about your 328i because i never had one but my 335i you have to be close to unlock it. if you put the key on your chin it uses your head as an antenna and you get longer range. that part is not a joke.

Thanks man, I've just found another thread with answers on that, some people are also mentioning that the tint might affect it, no tint on my 328 but tint on the 335 now.
Thanks for the answer

thats possible. i have tints on mine and got them awhile ago so i dont remember if it was any different. i have carbon ceramic tints though and they shouldnt interfere with signals. the XM radio works fine and so does my radar detector. i asked the dealer the same question while back in regards to needing to be so close to the car to unlock it and they said BMW's are just like that. they said something like that. it never really bothered me since why would i need to unlock the car a block away if i wasnt going to be getting in it for a long time. there is no need to have it unlocked until i am very close to it. i thought it was a safety feature. so people cant steal it but you said your 328i was different so i really dont know.

yeah i'm pretty sure it's the tints. i'm having the same problem. worked fine on my 328 but my 335 has tints and i have to be super close. i have 15% tints so i pretty much have to be a foot away haha

Do you have Comfort Access?

If you do, I would change the battery in the key fob; made a significant improvement for me.

When i first got my ride without any tinting i could open and close the door from far. After the tint on all my windows (Infrared Nano-ceramic), i need to stand basically beside the car to open/close the door.

ceramic tint, shouldn't effect the range, only metallic tints normally interfere with the satellite, radar, keyless entry...

It must be the tints.

I just put 35% tint all around except the windowshield on my E90 and now it unlocks at about half the distance. Can't believe I didn't put 1 and 2 together until now.
