E90 questions

Hi all,

Have a few questions about my new 2011 e90 with pro nav

I have a USB in the glovebox and one in the centre next to the aux in.
If I plug my iPod into the glove box USB with the standard white iPod cable, nothing is shown. If I plug it into the centre it works fine but although the iPod says charging, it doesn't actually charge! I was told I didn't need a specific BMW iPod cable, and could just use the standard iPod one. Is this not true?

Also on my auto gearbox going up the gears seems a little hit and miss when using the steering wheel paddles, going down a couple is instant by when pressing the + it's not always changing up, then it might go into say 3rd but keep pressing it won't go into 4th and 5th straight away. Was gona take it back for BMW to look, or is this normal.

The Apple lead worked no problem for charging mine from under the arm rest. I can't comment on the glove box USB as I don't have.

With regard to the gears, the car will not let you change up a gear if the engine speed is too low so it doesn't 'labour'. Hope that's what you meant anyway.

Maybe I should give it another go, I was in standard auto mode and dropped 2 gears, so assumed I could use the paddle to go back up 2 gears?

I'm just doing an update on the USB ATM see if that makes a difference, glad the apple cable does work tho. Will see how it goes today.

Defo think there's a problem, using the selector I can go up and down easily, using the paddles down is instant but takes a few presses to go up again!

The USB in the glove box is for transferring data to the HDD only, be that music, software updates, navigation updates and so on.

The USB in the armrest should, with a standard Apple USB cable, allow streaming from the iPod, full control of the iPod, album artwork and charging.

Am I right in thinking you need a specific cable to do this via the Armrest USB point, or can you use the standard white Iplop cable?

As I said, "standard Apple USB cable".... (for CIC systems which the OP has; the early CCC systems need the expensive Y cable)

Hi, not really, still seems intermittent but haven't booked it in.

Yes, standard iPod cable works fine, although I find the iPod occasionally freezes and it looks like it has no battery left, just a quick hard reset and it all works again.

interesting, as i test drove an E90 at our local BMW garage and swore the same thing was happening with the paddle shift in that (2010 model).
