Thumbs down 2006 blower motor warning/notice...

Hey all,

I have been on here for a long time now and i just wanted to let anyone know who owns an 06/07 bimmer 3 series to listen for the warning sounds of the blower motor dying..

Here they are:
Lower setting high pitch squeal
Grinding noise on low to middle speeds
Basically any noise that is NOT normal

I just had my blower replaced last feb because when it was on low it did not work. And as you know in the midwest we had a ton of snow and temps in the single digets. So i woke up this morning and my car started fine but low and behold i had major grinding for 20 secs then bam nothing. So after tearing the blower out and checking the fuse (also freezing my ass off) I found chunks of ice IN the blower motor assm so if the dealer tells you there is no way for water to get into the motor tell them to kiss your ass!

So After i let it defrost in my house for 30 mins, and then soaking up the water in my pass. floor mat and behind glovebox it i re-installed it and after some minor grinding that went away within seconds and now its working.

But I bet this is going to happen again, and my best guess is it is coming from the gaps in the cowl, then driping through the microfilter assm into the dash area and ultimatly the blower motor.

FEEL FREE TO PRINT THIS AND SHOW IT TO YOUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IF THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT OR USE IT TO AT LEAST GET THEM TO CUT YOU A BREAK ON REPAIR COST.

Ps I am sorry its such a long post but wanted to help out ky fellow bimmer buddies.

There is a TSB for this:

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B513305g.htm

It does NOT cover the blower unfortunety. But your dealer was BS'ing you. You should have it covered under warranty because you mentioned the problem earlier (while you were in warranty, I assume) and the dealer failed to diagnose properly/find the TSB.

If your dealer gives you problems, escalate to BMW NA. I'm sure they will work it out with you.

^^ thank you I printed this off, and I have had 3 complaints of my cowl NOT sitting flush against the windshield and have been told they cant fix it any better. The center section fits tight but both the left and right corners lift up with ease and also have gaps ranging from 1/16" to 1/8"..

This might sound a bit 'ghetto', but what if you put clear silicone underneath the cowl where it meets the windshield?

did you ever have your windshield replaced?

on the bottom on that cowl piece is a hard plastic lip that runs left to right the length of the windshield, it should pop into a slot just below the windshield. if it does not you will have water entry into the cowl area and ultimately into your blower motor.

this happened to me.

i caught it in time and dissassembled, oil the motor up, put cowl back nicely WITH SILICONE bead on that lip.
