BTW. all ports were live on mine. Maybe because i have "stronger electrical supply" on my build sheet? 2011 335d if you want to look up on real oem

As for unplugging the gnd before plugging the pos side in , it depends if there is a load on the otherside. But might as well make it a habit and unplug it. From what I observed, you only lose trip meter and mpg calculations with negative terminal disconnected.. |

I did the same thing but no reason for guys not to get the larger diameter MAK-8 connector. The female socket is the same, just the arms which grab the wire that are larger.
