Fess up who bought a programming cable and hasn't used it?

I bought one, downloaded the software, read, read, and read some more.
Dug out my OLD laptop to install (win XP)
Read some more,
browsed,
searched,
skimmed,

watched those fuzzy youtube videos that show nothing useful because I still didn't know enough...

Now I have a cable, installed working software, and I still haven't programmed anything or even connected it to my car.

Reprogramming modules is not as difficult as you guys might think! Plus, there's other useful software applications out there for these vehicles that allow for real-time datalogging and such.

It really is not as hard as you think. If you can follow directions, and pay attention to detail, it is pretty easy. The most common issue is using old daten files which can cause strange things to happen, like non functioning gauges. These are easily fixed by searching though.

Don't use DCAN cables for programming if you don't know what you're doing. Always use the right tool for the right job.

Got a Kcan cable for 50 bucks with Dis 57

programmed the windows up on keyfob and no air conditioner on auto.
Don't want to do anything with the Kombi module that bad, since that is where most run into trouble. I have Diags running for the car. I spent a huge amount of time on the setup for diags.
May use it to install and alarm and USB port when I'm bored again.
06 only requires a Kcan cable.

+1. I Did hook the adapter up once to verify that I could read things, was so worried that I messed something up just doing that, that I havent used it since. Also, just doing that caused a low battery warning. I cant afford to buy one of those auxiliary power units and I dont want to be messing up my electrical system with a cheap battery charger, so havent done anything since.

this thread is lol.

Read the threads, go to the other coding forum site, and get educated. It's not rocket science.

I've coded my lci tails, window up on fob, digital speedo, auto close sunroof if it rains, etc etc etc. Easypeasy

I bought one on Ebay, but I couldn't make it work. I think the problem is that my laptop OS is WIN7.

Not stable enough for programming (flashing) modules. It's OK for coding and diagnostics though.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who kept putting it off! It took me weeks to get up the nerve to try it but it wasn't nearly as hard nor confusing as I thought it would be.

I bought the cable and spent over a week gathering info. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bits and pieces of info available. I had links to about 30 web pages saved. Trying to assimilate all this to come up with a comprehensive picture was a challenge.

Then all the issues with INPA, NCS Expert, EDIBAS, DATEN files, etc. versions and most did not cover my E70. I ended with so much software.

And then all the issues with Win 8 Pro (I tried its Hyper-V so I could run Win XP but could not get INPA to work). Then installed Win 7 and tried Win XP virtual machine there. Still problems. Eventually managed to get Win XP installed on the same laptop that has Win 8 already -- Win 8 does not like when you install other O/S's after it

Anyway, I persevered and got it all to work! I think it would have been a lot easier if I was trying to code an E90 because there's so much more info for it.

+1.

It's not that hard people. Once you code one thing, it's basically the same process every time. I've done a Sirius radio retrofit, digital speed, DVD in motion, sidemarker delete, and passenger seatbelt chime delete.

Just read the original DIY and you'll be fine. I was in the same boat, but turns out it's not bad my homies
