I got an idea how to make harder to steal our cars, but I'm not shore if it can work. I need someone like expert on BMW E9X.

ELV (electronic steering lock) when is not engage you can't start a car? And then fault comes up.
If make a another switch for ELV. Before you put a key in slot you press a switch or another key switch. Then you can start a car.
When they gona try to steal your car even with OBD socket is not gona work because you need to engage ELV.

seems like a very simple cutoff switch....and if i really wanted your car because you got the single kit i want....tow trucks do wonders so just some food for thought. As far as anyone trying to actually break in and use a coded key, MIGHT work but car thieves are not as dumb as they look. Maybe some of the honda boys that use a hanger or pry the window back and take the center bezel but there are some thieves that can easily take your bmw off your hands in a heartbeat. Yea it might slow them down but i can assure they will find a way to take it. You can maybe intercept the connect between the steering wheel lock and ignition and route that to somewhere like the glove where you can securely lock it if you park in a bar area but idk.

That's what I mean just make harder. I know if they want to nick your car they will tow or point a gun to you. But with OBD will be much harder

Mega,

Do you know anyone in the west london (heathrow) area that can disable (modify) the OBD port?

Your location is near me and getting a morning off work to visit Cooksferry in Enfield is proving challenging

I would just unscrew it and route it to a different location... this will definately stump the thief.

I'd buy a new OBD Socket and fit it in place of the original with the original tucked away out of sight! prob need swapped back or put in view when car goes into dealers but thats no biggy

how easy is this? I guess it can be routed anywhere as long as it's far for the window? middle of the car interior?
You can still show where it is to the technician (BMW or indie) that would need to use it.

There are 2 screws, I don not know how long the wire is and how far you can reroute it, but if you cap it off and just move it to the area where the fuses are, no one will look there. It would be a hassle for them, I would guess they would move to the next one if they found something like that.

I would personally just move it somewhere else deeper into the car. The problem with its current location is that the thieves can get to it without setting off motion detectors. So under the ashtray, or in the armrest would be suitable place for relocation.

Pity they never thought to fit the OBD port underneath the oddments / ashtray in the first place!
